Riedel Superleggero Burgunder Grand Cru. Clear color, sitting between ruby and garnet, but already small depot. A restrained, understated nose with pronounced earthy tones—forest floor, damp soil, and a dark, slightly brooding character. On the palate, there is very little remaining red fruit; instead, it leans firmly toward darker notes of blackberry and dried plum, again with an earthy core. Medium length, with a clean, elegant finish. Overall, a harmonious and mature wine with beautifully integrated tannins and lively, well-preserved …

A refined and beautifully mature Spätburgunder that combines Burgundian elegance with the clear signature of Baden. The nose is open and precise, offering pure red cherry and wild strawberry alongside subtle notes of forest floor, dried herbs, and a gentle mineral undertone. On the palate, it is silky yet vibrant, with lively acidity providing lift and tension, and tannins that are fully resolved and seamlessly integrated. Despite its age, the wine shows surprisingly little overt tertiary character, instead emphasizing freshness, …

A refined and beautifully mature Pinot Noir from a cool and balanced vintage. The nose opens with pure red cherry, wild strawberry, and subtle notes of forest floor and dried herbs. On the palate, it shows remarkable precision and depth — silky yet vibrant, with perfectly resolved tannins and a lively, mineral-driven backbone. There’s an effortless harmony between fruit, acidity, and structure, giving the wine both energy and grace. The finish is long, elegant, and quietly powerful.

Glass: Riedel Superleggero Burgundy Popped and poured. Clear, medium garnet, tawny color. At first the nose seemed very ripe and mature. I thought about Huber from early 2000. With air and time it gained freshness and morphed into a pronounced, developing nose with lots of fine red fruit, spices, herbs, underbrush. Very elegant and complex. On the palate dry, high, ripe acidity, medium+ ripe and fine tannin. Lots of sweet red fruit, fresh and dried herbs, very salty and mineral. …

Drunk during a pinot noir tasting of burgundy, german and swiss pinots from 1989 - recent and this was clearly one of the more tired bottles, rather oxidised with high acidity and not much of a backbone.

This bottle was one of the greatest Pinot Noirs I have ever drunk from Germany. It also confirms my thesis that the „Schlossberg“ from the Huber family is even better than the „Wildenstein“, even if the latter is significantly more expensive. The 2010 has everything that makes a great wine: aromatic depth, structure, substance, freshness, balance and length. The class is already evident on the nose: dark fruit, coolness, a little charcoal, graphite, lots of steaming stones after a summer …

Glass: Riedel Sommelier Burgundy Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Serious German Pinot with a high, ripe and racy acidity. Really beautiful and joyful, but lacks a bit of tension, complexity and depth to get some more points. Nevertheless a beautiful wine in a great spot right now, but no need to hurry. 91-92

Univinum wine fair (@EDEKA Ueltzhöfer, Heilbronn, Germany) : Glass: Red Wine *** brief notes for my own memory from tasting sip. No rating *** From Magnum or double Mag. German Pinot at its best. Very deep and concentrated, beautiful fruit and freshness. Noticeable vanilla notes, long, herbaceous finish. 93-94

@Restaurant Bären Birmenstorf No decanting. - Nose: Full on from the start, beautiful medium + intense red fruit, characterised by strawberries, wild cherries and a little strawberry jam. The fruit core is enveloped by filigree aromas of wet, rubbed limestone, vanilla and a hint of cinnamon. Added to this are nuances of forest floor and foliage. But the 07 still has an amazing amount of fruit! - Mouth: Medium in alcohol, medium tannins, which give the wine structure in the …

Needs about an hour decant. The late Bernhard Huber referred to the Schlossberg as his Chambolle-Musigny, and it is indeed smooth and elegant with dark fruit. But it was simpler than I had been hoping for. Drink now or it should still hold for at least 5-10 years. Cellared since original release.

A highlight regarding freshness, straightness and expression of the 2010 Huber Schlossberg - needs a lot of air and should not be drunk too warm - then this wonderful Spätburgunder delivers. Clear, cool Pinot fruit with a super acidity, shows depth, high purity (cherries and cherry stones, finest wood and a certain earthiness) and elegance.

I was never convinced from Germea PN's. There is a small amount of Producers that can stand the pace with Burgundies. Many Germans Count this one to this Special circle. For me it is good but still too earthy and oak dominated. It gets smoother and fruitier with time but for my palate too edgy and pert. Maybe too Young, only short decantation time. 92

From a mediocre Spätburgunder vintage (certainly not mediocre for Riesling!), this is a successful wine. It shows plenty of precise strawberry fruit that is just short of jammy and some iron, supported by very good acidity to give freshness to the wine. The texture is silky. There is not the complexity of a still better wine, however. I think it's time to drink this wine up over the next 3-5 years.

Glass: Zwiesel Burgundy From half bottle, popped and poured at Schwitzer’s Restaurant. Clear, medium ruby-garnet color. Intense, lovely developing nose with lots of herbs, some dark red fruits, oak. Dry, medium+ acidity, high, silky finegrainend tannin, complex, lots of pressure on the palate, fruit, soil, long finish. Perfekt to drink now, but has certainly potential for 10+ years.

Clear, deep- ruby color. Intense and fully developed nose with spices, bacon, red fruit and some oak. Dry, full bodied, high, well integrated acidity, a hint of residual sugar. Constantly changing in the glass, so it needs a lot of air and has still some potential for further ageing. Long finish. Very good example of a German Pinot from a top vintage.

During a Bernhard Huber tasting (Tanglin Club, Singapore). Medium Ruby. Deeply aromatic nose of underbush, red fruit, spices, tobacco with a mineralic undertone. On the palate cherry, raspberry again and quite sappy. This is really good Pinot with quite a lot of depth. 93+

2007 Pinot Noir from Baden & Bourgogne (Home) : Medium crimson colour, a bit cloudy. In the nose, this is quite dense, rather high toned with raspberry and forest strawberry notes, very clear, nicely fragrant, hints of oak that add to the appeal. On the palate, this is high toned again, beautiful, great structure, medium to mild acidity, crisp raspberry fruit, some tannin. Long.

Weingut Huber Spatburgunder with Joel Payne + Surprise Dinner (Taberna) : Nose: Interesting notes of anchovies, red bell peppers and light hints of coffee. They played a background role supporting the lovely pinot red fruit nose. Taste: Still relatively primary but showing great finesse and cool climate fruit. Clean, balanced between the fruit and acid. A touch cooler compared to the '05 Schlossberg Not showing too much just a high quality of fruit and level of winemaking. Really shows the …

Weingut Huber Spatburgunder with Joel Payne + Surprise Dinner (Taberna) : Nose: Loved the hay, mushrooms and minerals along with the amazing fruit in this wine. Taste: The ripest of the flight but not over the top. Very masculine but clean cut and very balanced. Supple and powerful for old world Pinot standards. Easily the crowd favourite and many have commented this as a dead ringer for one of the better grand cru burgs regions (of which I am not …
