Fattoria Capannacce Maremma Toscana Rosso

Bought to accompany a spicy pizza, popped 'n poured. A dark ruby in the glass, the intriguing nose straight away was of dark cherry, black currant, pepper, and a 'hint' of prune/raisin. On the palate, rich, ripe red and blue/black fruits, supported by black pepper and a melange of tobacco- and leather-like notes; more Rhone-like than typical sangiovese, in my experience. Strong black cherry and pepper taste. Drank slowly over a 3 hour period and each glass was better.

Very tart, strong overripe flavor. Not a fan, would be okay with strong flavored foods only. Drank on Christmas in Dallas w/Lasagna.

This super tuscan has some likable qualities Sangiovese,Syrah, Grenach, Canaiolo makes for a complex blend on the tart side but has some nice cherry and black pepper and leather notes. I might pair with something grilled but it just does not sing in harmony on its own.

This was surely a food wine and not a sipping wine. Paired well with grana padana cheese and our pesto/salami bites.

Very gentle Tuscan. This wine has nice leather notes with vanilla and oak and some berries. Somewhat velvity feel on the tongue with soft tannins and little acidity. Very nice drinkable wine with or without food.

drank over several nights and was just as good or better the last night. it needs some heavy food to accompany it. a little too heavy for us with still rough edges.

Soft red fruit, gentle, quite muddled flavors, a little chestnut, dumb nose. This bottle seems a little tired (some brick noticeable). Shame, I've really enjoyed many of the Small Vineyards selections. May have been on the shelf a little too long......

Small Vineyards Tasting : Ripe red fruit on the nose with some baking spices. Very enjoyable texture to this wine. It's quite nice, and well made, although doesn't really stand out. 87-88

Small Vineyards Tasting (Orso's) : Sangiovese dominates the nose with dried cranberries/cherries, and hint of earthy rusticity. I think the Syrah and Grenache really show on the palate though. Big and spicy with plums, full blown tannins, and jammy acidity.

Good and straightforward sangiovese. Mellow and delicious with good warmth and fruit. A real crowd pleaser.
