Decanted for an hour. Pleasant aromas of cassis, not particularly complex, but certainly showing a bit of age. The palate is quite austere with cassis giving way to minerally tastes. I’d say this is at its peak and won’t be getting better. Nice now!

Drinking in early to mid maturity. This is very impressive for the price. Structured and pointed, this is all pencil shavings, cedar and cassis. It is not echt-Paulliac, but it offers a lot of the character of classed growth wines, nice palate profile - medium body, superb balance and tannic structure. Good not great relative to last bottle. Still very good! Just a little thinner and with a touch less impact on the palate. Still a nice bottle of wine and an insane deal.

Excellent once again, this bottle was just perfect. This remains a very impressive wine period much less for the price. It’s just delicious. Charred pepper, mint, tobacco, dirt, berries, plums, saline, licorice, coffee. Mouthfilling with some rustic tannin remaining. The finish is not especially long, who cares. Note to self: don’t think too hard, just buy a 6er of Lanessan every year.

Very deep red. Plenty of rich, ripe concentrated fruit. Not as complex as hoped but think it could happily age for the better in the 5-7 years time.

Good as always, if possibly starting to fade a tad from a few years ago. Always amazing QPR if well stored but this bottle didn't have quite as much oomph as previous bottles that were either fresher and/or more complex and tertiary.

I was at Lanessan on May 8 and tasted the '16, '19 and '20. When I came home to my US house, I found a few 2000s in the back crawl space. Good fill, mid neck, and clean dry cork. It had surprisingly few fruity notes, and felt like it had a bit of age. Might have been a special bottle. It was very light on the palate, but had a pleasant aftertaste that lasted a long time.

Decent, luncheon sort of Claret. Quite light & savoury. Finish drops off in a shrug-the-shoulders way. I expected a bit more given the estate and vintage. Not great value at current prices.

My go to value Bordeaux, for 10€. A nice nose of, cassis stems, pencil shavings, oak and tobacco. It’s got fine grip and powdery young tannins. Of course you can keep it. I have 6, I’m gonna save some for 5 years or so. But drinks well now.

Fairly dark red. Peppery blackberry fruit. Quite intense and exciting. Dry slightly herbal blackberry flavours and a dry refreshing finish. Much better than previous bottle.

Surprisingly still had a healthy amount of tannins, but all of the secondary flavors are present, just not as pronounced as the 83. In a good place, and if the 83 is any indication, should last a good while.

1999 vintage

Clear medium dark red, no sediment. Young Cabernet nose, cassis and black cherries, quite primary. Dry berry and cherry flavours and a dry balanced finish. Nice young Bordeaux. In BC there are still bottles of the much better 2019 for sale at the same price. Why would I buy this wine? Still I may buy a couple more for scientific purposes.

Nose: Damp earth, chalk, dark berries; quite lovely. Palate: mildly tart black raspberries, nice chalky texture. Tannins are warming but soft; hint of bell pepper on the finish. Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood) : From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of red hued fruit, sweet spice, touch of cedar and cream, biscuit quite muted considering the vintage, a little red currant and leather. Medium plus intensity acidity, it's quite hard on the palate, Stingy fruit is a little dried out, carries medium length, tannins are slightly chalky, slight alcohol warmth. Meh

Bought a case at auction on the back of David Peppercorn's comments in 2004. "A wine for those who love Medocs for their own sake and are not slaves to labels". Medium body, pleasantly acidic, sufficient fruit remaining, though initial richness disappears perhaps a little too quickly. This might be my go-to wine for 2024. Can't see it getting any better for keeping.

Peppery, red fruits, herbs and underbrush open the nose. The medium-bodied palate is loaded with black currants, peppery herbs, green olives and dusty tannins. This is more in line with some of the Lanessan's that were produced in the past. Drink from 2024-2037

Casual weekday dinner wines : A little polished and plummy for my liking with liquorice, cassis notes, but wasn't over-extracted or oaked. Modern but restrained, with a pleasant savoury element.

Coravin fun - Bordeaux and Mosel (My place, Kent Street) : from Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas. This is a slightly more austere version of the 2009; the fruit more compote, the spice a little more savoury, tiny touch of cedar. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, slightly chalky textured tannins, dilute fruit is quite muted and the tannins persists past it. Meh.

Last of 7 bottles. Dark red color, nearly black. On nose, red currants, cassis, plum and dark cherry. On palate, medium+ body, medium acidity / tannins and long finish. More fruit on palate than nose has suggested. This has aged very well. 91+

Opened and decanted for 1 hour, continued to open up over 3 hours. Still has plenty of acid and tannin, fruit is starting to drop off. Tertiary development is starting, nice notes of sous boi, leather, some cedar notes. Good length, but subdued intensity. Nice wine for the price.

Drinking superbly. I was really surprised by the power and intensity. All with structure and balance. Feels like a decade ahead at least.

1999 vintage

Decanted for a couple of hours, and also tried the next day (with little change). This is coming on very nicely. Fairly deep colour, good nose of moderate intensity. On the palate it's medium-weight but is now well-knit, and the tannins are well integrated. Agreeable if slightly short on the finish. A good mid-range claret which is now ready to drink, but will probably improve further. Very good QPR.
