Slow ox few hours then splash decant. Browning on edges but didnt appear like a 29 year old wine. Nicely balanced. Fruit fading but has some complexity mushroom, herbs. Still drinking nicely

Tired, over the top. Perhaps these do not have the aging power of its Bordeaux siblings...

100% Merlot from Vigna l'Apparita Cru in Chianti Classico, planted in 1982. Fermented spontaneously in stainless steel, macerated for a month with the skins, aged for 14 months in a combination of new and old French oak barriques (normally 50/50). 13% alcohol. Deep, moderately opaque and somewhat evolved blackish-red color with a rusty dried-blood hue. Brooding, characterful and moderately evolved nose with aromas of dark plummy fruits and dried figs, some licorice tones, a little bit of game, light toasty …

2nd bottle of this wine in the past few months. First one was bit past, this one is better. Medium ruby. Medium intensity and developed nose. Earthy, truffles, black cherries, dried herbs. Medium body, still some tannins, iron, balsamic, earth, dirty sour cherries aftertaste, good length. Not a lot of fruit left, but still good complexity and development to compensate.

Slow oxed for a bit. Nice purity of merlot fruit, but without a touch of flamboyance I might have hoped for, some leather and earth development - overall this was reasonably elegant but just not that exciting. Didn’t seem over the hill or too young ***1/2

Pretty tight out of the bottle but after a 40 min decant a lot of that classic pure fruit merlot came out. There is still formiddable acid that counter balance the fruit but the whole experience ends with a wall of tannins. Despite being a delicious wine overall I felt the finish had more to be desired as it ended with a wall of tannins rather than lingering fruit or teritary flavors. Drank this side by side with 1995 Castello …

Pale garnet and with fading edges. Aromas of paprika, five spices, and smoked meat, and bell pepper. A clear strong bell pepper, red cherry, twigs, Chinese fungal herbs. Quite a hard alcohol burn on the backpalate. Quite strange, as I really thought I was tasting a new world example, though I did get the Cabernet

Following my epic experience with the 1994 (a vintage that was not at all on my radar), I had pretty high hopes for this. But (and you knew that was coming), this was just ok. Certainly it seemed at peak, and that peak was a full notch beneath my expectations. That said, it's got class, and some complexity, but ultimately (maybe the 4 hours of aeration weren't enough?) it was a good+, mature wine. The color and fill on this …

Aging very well with mostly tertiary spectrum now. Better than my last encounter with this vintage. No need to wait longer.

The bouquet is still a bit reticent, but there are rustic, chocolate and cinnamon impressions. On the palate dark fruits, autumn, earth, spices and pleasant medicine. Mature and soft, but also still a bit sticky tannin. The wine is ready now, but probably also plenty of future left, depending on your preference.

Beautiful wine, right at it's peak. Full of wild cherry and red raspberry. Silky, fully mature tannins. Just a hint of mineral and leather. Clean and pure. No funk.

An unbelievably deep, thick and structured wine. This has absolutely all the ingredients to be a perfect wine - still needs a little time to evolve. Try again in 3 years.

The bottles were transferred from the winery on the day of the tasting and opened two hours before pouring. Very youthful in appearance, bright ruby red, no bricking. Herbal characteristics dominate the aromatic profile, but with some coffee, cocoa and a little fruit as it evolved in the glass. Moderately intense and persistent, not quite ready for drinking (from the 1.5L format).

Older Bords at Taste: Blind Cube - I heard someone also call this "stewey". Not sure I think that. Dense, young. Some powdered sugar and pepper with a fair amount of oak. Bordeaux? Good though. This made more sense once we knew it was Italian. I thought it was a high-end Spanish wine.

Very tight and closed, but clearly showing its pedigree. Drink 2010 onwards.
