Von Schubert, Maximin Grunhaus Pinot Noir, Mosel

Nice, fresh, some notes of peppermint.

Tasted blind and was way off. Less extracted and devoid of the smokiness of Spatburgunder. I think the secret here lies within the label, which bears the name "Pinot Noir" instead of "Spatburgunder", which might suggest the clones used aren't the usual ones found in Germany. Quite Burgundian in presentation, and showing quite some age at only 8 years old.

Jeremy's Riesling Dinner (Hawthorn) : Much fuller on the nose than the Trollinger, but crisp and crunchy on the palate, with a clean appetitising finish. That said, there was something disjionted and displeasing about this wine, as though it was closed down. I loved the 2016 when I tasted it in 2020, and see both Jancis Robinson and David Schildknecht have cast doubts on how this wine will age, so perhaps (even though it didn't taste at all 'old') it's …

Med+ nose revealing raspberry cranberry blackberry vanilla earth cedar and clove but later strawberry later baking spices like cinnamon. This wine is developing so nicely! Palate is a different story. Med acidity, Med tannins still rather tightly wound , Med intensity. Lean. Med alcohol, Med finish. Frankly the nose makes a promise that the palate cannot keep. Blind. Licorice, animal fur, obviously PN. Very good wine, quite cool, some oak, although not overly complex or impressive.

Good and interesting spätburgunder, quite smokey. Maybe not the best qpr but a good wine

Pale ruby red colour. Light nose with red currant, cranberry, forest floor and earth. Medium (-) taste of red currant, cherry, forest floor, earth and wet leaves. Medium long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium (-) tannins. Medium (-) body. A very good Pinot Noir that drinks well now, but could also benefit from ageing. Goes well with mushrooms, poultry and pork.

My first try of a Grünhäuser Pinot Noir, although much too young showing some complexity, mineralic, seems to be planted on one of the good soils of the von Schubert property, great clarity, gentle and persistent, recommended! *(**-****- ?), 90, 91+ potential

Wow, a discovery. Lots of mineralic and cluster notes. Very elegant and complex.
