Aromas start out with dried fruit with a more pronounced prune note, there's even a touch of chocolate liqueur that gives me hope ... maybe. On the palate it starts off very peppery and spicy, but more wood than fruit derived. I used a small decanter to see if I was able to smooth it out with air ... and it does, kinda. The fruit is dried and slightly sweet-ish in nature, the pepper and spice have backed off but …

A 100% Garnacha wine out of Spain with aromas of mocha, blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon, and baker's chocolate followed on the palate by a complex array of flavours: blackberry, cassis, blueberry skin, mocha, wrapped in silky tannins with just a slight hint of leather.

Tasted 2 bottles from cellar tonight and both appear to be over the hill, front fruit very muted, acidic hiccups. Drink now or....

This wine is top notch. Balanced fruit, tannins, moderately complex beginning then opens up into a rich harmony of flavors, with pepper, spice, earth. Ridiculous value.

Spice and red berry scents. Perfect from the start: tons of raspberries, red cherries, and white pepper. Very typical of a really good Spanish grenache, simple but concentrated and smooth. Used to hate this varietal but it gets better and better.

A bit more jam and noticed the alcohol more on this bottle - don't know if it was bottle variation or the food I had it with. Still dark in colour with dark fruit, chocolate and spice flavours. Medium finish and not much complexity - quite simple in fact. Will see if other bottles exhibit the same response.

This is the second, inexpensive Spanish wine in as many nights. Both were under $10 (the other was 2011 Herencia Altes Terra Alta) and both were very, very good. This one starts out slow, needing more time to wake up, but when it does, it's on. The Herencia Altes Terra Alta, on the other hand, started out strong but fizzled. The Filon is most enjoyable at after 30 minutes of being popped. The Herencia has a window of an hour …

Perfect house wine..I have been able to score this wine for $7 a bottle. The wine is very inky in color. Typical Spanish Grenache, very approachable and dark fruit forward. enjoy.

This is a big, jammy version of Grenache. It's a little smoky and very peppery. This is the reason people love many inexpensive Spanish wines: they're good.
