Cristom, Marjorie Vineyard Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills

PnP. Surprisingly fresh. Savory. One of the better Oregon Pinots from a complicated vintage. The fruit is holding up and this is delicious with food, fine on its own. I’m pleased that I have 3 bottles left, though I will want to drink them in the next couple years.

Just had a taste. Very “berry” on the nose and palate. Wonderfully pure, chiming red fruit with satin texture. Excellent and noteworthy.

Really delicious. 2013 was a challenging vintage in the Willamette Valley, and I’ve had varying experiences with the wines, including other Cristom vineyard designates, but this Pinot noir is singing with savory notes on the nose and the finish. Good acidity in other words, earthy, but still enough fruit to balance. That said, I think it’s definitely ready to drink.

One of the first wines I bought, nearly a decade ago, This Cristom showed awesome at 12 years of age, and speaks to aging those age worthy Oregon reds! Wine is in a perfect spot, straddling fruit and savory complexity. In a blind, could see this called Burgundy from a mature, warm vintage… with confusing fruit note mixed with autumn flavors. Translucent ruby hue. Nose of fresh red raspberry, soaring but deep violets, earth, faint iron. Layers of pure, juicy red berry, anchoring iron filament, interest-generating stemminess, and silky tart sweetness on the beautifully balanced palate. Bright acidity and smoothed tannin. Long finish of red berry, granular soil, iodine, and resolving sweet goodness. Brilliant, so Oregon.

It took an hour to open, but once it did, there was a beautiful expression of red-fruited Eola fruit, more mineral and tannic than Dundee, but rhymes. The mid-palate and finish are all consistent echos. Stems are present from the open and provide nice structure support and added complexity. If anything, this needs more time; after 4+ hours in the decanter, it turns sour. I would love to taste it in another 5-10; there is plenty left for extended aging.

Absolutely wonderful Pinot Noir! Dark red fruits on the nose. Plenty of acidity left and just the right amount of tanins to balance it out. Drinking absolutely perfect right now, but probably not much longer left.

Took a while to open up and for some sulfur to blow off. Eventually cedar and spice aromas became apparent. Palate gained richness but shows a lot of restraint. Acidity is still very much intact, with an almost electric presence.Tannins are still quite grippy too. Current drinking window is set to end in a couple of years, but this wine sure feels like it's got more than that in it.

Takes 30 minutes to hit its stride. Gorgeous stem, spice and black cherry aromas. Palate has terrific concentration and layers. Well balanced. At peak.

Oregon state wine tasting, wine #6. Joy to compare this aged, rounded and silky smooth mature Eileen with bright, concentrated and fresh Jessie. Medium light brick red colour. Medium intensity aroma of ripe strawberries, smoky toasted oak, floral hints, vanilla and other spices. Medium body, soft, smooth and round texture with fresh red berry flavours, bright and balanced acidity, silky tannins.

Decanted >1 hour. Paired with Coq a Vin. Wine has nicely matured and in a great drinking window. Mature fruit with hints f cola and earth. Delicious.

Just on the edge of being gone. We made the mistake of letting it breather for several hours, at this point I'd open and pour. The look was thin, but not out of character for Pinot, it was gone to where there was no nose and the taste was classic varietally correct less robust Pinot, but edging towards prunes. I would drink immediately and hope you can save it.

Penetrating nose of cinnamon, earth, black raspberries drawing you in from the get go. A delicate yet very focused wine on the palate with surprising dimension and detail and perfect balance. Just enough depth to retain interest. Great example of the best of the 2013 WV pinots. I'd drink 'em soon.

Fantastic Oregon Pinot. Beautiful nose, restrained palate. Great fruit, acid, and tannins... Long soft finish.

Medium color. Deep appealing nose. Slightly astringent mouth feel. Nice complexity and finish. Cherry, sour cherry, a touch of menthol, bright acidity. This is still young. Give the next bottle two or three years.

Decanted about 3 hours. Paired with a 13 Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast. Lighter and fruitier than most Cristom offerings. Very nice on a warm day sitting on the deck. Enjoyable. I prefer bigger and bolder but this was very tasty and was right for the setting.

Another great example of Cristom wines. Loads of all-spice on the nose with lots of dark ripe fruits, black cherries and blackberries. The palate is surprisingly balanced (medium bodied) with plenty of primary fruit still present. The finish is nice with tannin still present. Tasting at Cristom (Winery Tasting Room, Willamette) : Winery tasting. Tasted side-by-side with the 2014. Similar in depth and intensity to the 2013 Estate pinot. Less rich and concentrated than the 2014 Louise Pinot. Aromas are full but ethereal with red cherry and light herb. On the palate, savory fruit is round and silky with great energy. This is more closed in and less obvious than the 2013 Estate pinot. Also, much less rich/forward than the 2014 Louise. 92-94.
