Black cherry and plum, compost, saddle, pepper. Lush texture, dark red fruit and pepper on the palette. Structured through a long finish.

This is a nice mid-weight St.Emilion (approx. 75%Merlot, 15%Cabernet Franc and 10%Cabernet Sauvignon) from this “classic” vintage. Indeed it is not suited for long term cellaring, but it’s perfectly ready to drink now and better than I imagined based on some previous comments. Medium color with some evolution, aromas of red berries, cedar, tobacco with, for extra complexity, interesting herbal and weedy tones, smooth tannins, nice acidity and a medium-long finish. Drink it now or over the next 3 years.

Beautiful cellar defender. Rich and complex. I think it's at or near the peak and should hold for several years.

Nose of leather and plum, hints of cola, smoked vanilla and pine. Front of black raspberry and faint hints of tobacco and licorice. Middle palate of earthy blackberry and vanilla with soft fine tannins with just a touch of grit. Finish of more tobacco with hints of clove and dark fruit. Medium body, lovely wine. Sadly looses definition after a couple hours open.

Fleshy black fruit upheld by a firm tannic backbone. Better with an hour of air. Has a nice umami richness in the mouth.

Wine was opened alongside some New World wines - which might have been an unfair comparison. The Grand Mayne still had evident tannins that masked what might have been beneath them. We were not in a position to decant - which might have thrown off some of that initial funk. I'd recommend decanting before drinking, or waiting another year or two.

DAY 1. Great intensity of aromas. Steely minerality, toasty oak, ripe black fruit, dried herbs, licorice maybe, some silage. So mineral on the nose. Adding some black coffee and vanilla on the palette and a spicy bitter dark chocolate finish with appreciable tannin. Smooth mouthfeel. Fruit not as prominent on the palette as the nose, but I expect it to increase overnight, as I did PnP. Day 2. Fruit increased on the nose, raspberry and black currant , and also …

Very decent wine with a little bit purfume and candy like flavour and aroma and plenty of dark fruits. Smooth and silky. Value for money.

Medium-bodied, classically styled, forward, early-drinking wine with a focus on its floral, spice, red fruit, herb and thyme character. The finish is bright, fresh and herbal. You can drink this now, or wait a few years. This will probably not make old bones. I'd opt for drinking it over the next 12-15 years.

A bit too tannic, dark black fruits dominate, a bit dull, still not yet open up after 2 hours air time, the tannin made it a little bit bitter than expected. This claret has potential to bloosom in the future but avoid to drink it too early. Suggest to keep for at least 3 years..

UGC TASTING San Francisco Vintage 2014, nose of plum, dark fruit, and floral notes, medium/big body, very tasty, medium amount of soft tannins makes you wander about the future of this wine, nose better than the taste, and long, slightly harsh, finish.

Tasting Bordeaux from bottle in New York City (Cipriani in New York City) : Bravo to Grand Mayne! This conveys succulence and fine tannin at once, with spicy fruit and excellent integration of oak. While not as precise and floral as Canon, this is an excellent Saint Emilion in 2014 from bottle!
