Balsamic nose along with saddle leather, some American oak, faded red fruit. No dill or coconut. At 20 years, the wine is still solid purple with no browning. In the mouth, it is medium bodied and full of lush red cherry fruit, leather, pencil shavings, minerals, and a very slight herbal component. The finish is long with slightly drying tannin that makes this a great food wine. Overall, very nice GR Rioja and fantastic value at $25 dollars. It shows …

This is really aging well and was a stupendous value. Dried cherries, a little American oak, good acidity and balance, and still relatively youthful in the way of traditional rioja. Very nice.

Still good fruit with drying tannins and acid that should allow this to age very well. I wasn't planning on drinking most of these until 2020 onward and was just checking in...looks like it will go the distance easily. If you prefer fruit to funkiness it is in a good place now.

Good but not extremely deep in flavor. Enjoyed the white burgundy I had that evening better, but it was a good wine

Tobacco and blue fruit aromas. Fine tannins coat the mouth from the get go, followed by ripe blueberry and plum flavors. Oak presents as integrated spice. Drying tannins build on the tongue through the finish.

Beautiful, classic sour cherry and funk on the nose. The color is a bit darker than other 2001s I have tried recently and the wine, after 12 years, is still very primary. All the components are there for a long nap in the cellar - great acidity, good dark fruit, tannins still strong, but the wine is far too tense right now. Almost all of the 2001s I have tried recently have been in this phase...you can sense the greatness …

Very nice fruit up front, smooth palate and very enjoyable, medium-short finish

Better than the first bottle. While still very "new world", it offered some cedar and leather notes along with the fruit. The finish was better, with tannins adding some grip.

Simple, enjoyable wine that is fruit forward. The structure is soft without pronounced tannins or acidity. It reminded me of a CdR.
