Really enjoyed this week: delicate balance, and not oaky or buttery. Could have been mistaken for an old world classic chardonnay. It might have a year or two more to go, but it is drinking beautifully now. Drank it accompanying European style small plates and it paired them well (we didn't have any meats or spicy or rich foods).

Cathy and I enjoyed this bottle very much with the second-night leftovers of Tuscan shrimp - a terrific pairing. A bit surprising but I liked the Patz Hyde better than the Ramey Hyde on the first night. Like the Ramey, which I rated a close 92, the Patz too was very balanced, but a little bit more lush and textured than the Ramey. Patz had medium body, crisp acidity and a deft touch of oak - present but not overbearing. …

Surprisingly shy on the nose, but loads of butter and tropical fruits (pineapple) on the palate. Full and rich, though perhaps lacking a bit of freshness for my taste.

A bit of a cloudy haze running thru this Chardonnay which has big notes oak, muskmellon, Elderflower, lemon, White raspberry, honey, pear, vanilla cream, orange marmalade, butter, and a clay like minerality. Citrus however is sufficient to balance this big wine out and balances it nicely in this very enjoyable Chardonnay perfect for this fall afternoon. Drink now thru- 2024.

Spicy pear and orange juice notes. Well informed by oak, but not "oaky". Has body and energy. A beauty.

A slightly glistening clearish pale yellow with a bit of haze. Citrus nose but muted. Delicate on the palate. Hint of vanilla and the tiniest bit of sweetness on the finish to round it out. Balanced, restrained without any one aspect jutting out or being obtrusive. Reminded me of Chassagne. That being said though, I drank a lot of Patz and Hall in my life and the last bunch of Chardonnay I bought of their’s was their 2014 Russian River …

This wine needs decanting it smelled like humid clothes. I made the mistake and didn’t decant it, I tasted the citrus and caramel but didn’t enjoy it.

IMHO many of California’s best Chardonnay’s come from this vineyard. As expected the 2014 Patz & Hall Hyde doesn’t disappoint. Clear, pale gold color. Pronounced, complex, and developing aromas and flavors of sour apple, juicy pineapple, tart lemon, poached pear, ripe melon, spiced oak, light butter, and some chalky minerals. Smooth, elegant and balanced with both creamy and tart sensations in the mouth. Medium plus body. Persistent acidity supports a very long finish. Really hits all the high notes and …

Great balance of tropical fruit, light oak and acidity. Good texture and depth. They just seem to know how to make balanced juice. Good nose too!

Wonderful, rich. Beautiful yellow in the glass. Lovely nose. Just an all around excellent Chard., typical of the Hyde vineyard.

Nice tart entry—citrus and tropical fruits. Mouth-filling. Initial sensation is fruit, but there is some stoniness, here. Some caramel, but, overall, a fairly light hand on the oak. Acid tartness makes for a very refreshing wine.

Nice flavor of citrus and tropical fruit. Minimal oak and moderate plus acid. More restrained than a lot of California chards.

Beautifully made wine that is round, balanced and fruit forward which is unusual for a Chardonnay. Full throttled mouth feel that has complex flavors of citrus, lemon curd and a hint of butter. Doesn’t need much time to open and has a wonderful nose of citrus. Another delicious Chardonnay from Patz and Hall.

Poured from a magnum so of course it's better! Drank the 2014 the night before...it was a carbon copy of the 14. No signs of age, this could easily go another 10 years.

An Evening with Donald Patz of Patz & Hall (Lincoln Park Binnys Tasting Room) : Showing slightly more concentration than Dutton, but still plenty of subtle and delicate complexity. Steely yet rich. Interesting aromas of toast, kernel, almond and a deep floral. Long finish with plenty of minerality. Very nice and nearly as impressive as the Dutton.
