Palazzo Maffei Amarone della Valpolicella

PnP. Deep ruby with brick edge in color. Reticent nose of black cherries, birch root, sweet tannins and warm spices. On the palate: black cherries, red berries and wood spice. Fine-grained tannins perceived on gums and somewhat on cheeks. Long finish of red berries, sweet tannins and wood spice. Wine is fairly well balanced and carries the 15% ABV well. Suspect it would improve with time in the cellar, but it will never be great.
