Slightly green but round and full palate. Very good for the vintage.

A darker, richer crimson — the hue of blood when it knows its own worth. Musk drifting like low clouds. White pepper lifting. Rose petals unfurling. And as the night deepened, the perfume of wet leaves after rain. On the palate, acidity that holds rather than shouts, tannins that grip with confidence, licorice whispering into a finish that glides through the sinuses like incense. She owned the night. She was the best. The night was forever young for her!

12x DRC (1961-2014) : It is always a privilege to taste through a lineup of DRCs. On this occasion, the performance was mixed. While the younger vintages generally showed well, a majority of the older bottles underperformed. Fill levels on the mature bottles were mostly suboptimal, and that was clearly reflected in the glass. Grand Cru Burgundy Summer Afternoon "Mini Paulée" (Tavern on Rush - Chicago IL) : 2006 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti flight. Bold red berry and cherry aromas with baking spice, slightly broader and blacker array of fruit flavors, all with very good density. Not quite at its sweet spot in terms of its Richebourginess, but its talking all Vosne with lots more to come.

Granc Cru Lunch : Ripe and almost jammy black cherry aromas opens up to show a load of black tea, Asian spice and whole cluster. Not as forward and easy as the Echezeaux, yet plenty of lush fruit and spice. Just entering its drinking window with some upside as this develops some nuance.

Bright raspberry, cherry and red currant aromas meld with a wisp of smoked meat, delivering an inviting, nuanced opening. Silky yet firmly structured, the palate shows lush fruit concentrates framed by fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. I find this Richebourg’s balance of voluptuous sweetness and precise backbone truly exemplary, with just enough assertive tannin to promise rewarding further aging.

The big bottle of 4 trophies in Ritz London dinner party for nephew and his fiancée. First DRC for any of us, and once in a lifetime pour mois. Sommelier decanted but declared ready to drink from nose. I was surprised but concurred. Ritz price for this bottle at retail level and provenance impeccable. Hotel reserved last bottle for me. Wonderful experience. Many value Burgundies would work as well 364 days of the year.

SLDS Big Guns at the International : Redcurrant, fine spice, forest floor, roses, ash and spice. Red and black fruit edges, composed, beautiful balance through structure. Complex with otherworldly depth to it. Stunning.

10x DRC 2010 vs 2011 : No surprises here - the 2010s crushed the 2011s across the board. The only exception? Richebourg, where the 2011 edged out a reductive and muted 2010. That said, Richebourg is the powerhouse of the DRC lineup, always needing time to show its best. The 2010s? Complete stunners. Richebourg and Meursault : Opened an hour before pouring. Very delicate and unctuous. Didn't have the signature DRC nose upfront. Some commented it seemed more developed than expected for its age. I agree, but I like the development. Lifted red fruit and silky tannins. Had more of the DRC signature on the finish. Not the WOTN by any means but a very enjoyable drink.

Expectation is always high when it comes to prestigious Domaines. With that in mind, this is still an outperforming 2006 that is ageing gracefully with barely any peppery note. Fragrant red berries, strawberries, sweet rose petals and sleek mineral undertone. Delineated with fine-grained tannins, really well-integrated and poised. 2011 Burg, we meet again. Pretty green, as expected (or feared), but also notes of bright red fruit, spice, and savoriness. Great persistence and density, but gave less pleasure than the other DRCs. The green faded a bit as the hours passed, but it's still mainly what I remembered. Tough vintage when lined up with 2002 and 2010. Needs way more time, if that’s even the answer, so no point to check in on it yet.

Very closed bottle, completely shut down upon opening. Dark ruby colour with great intensity and luminosity. First nose is all stems, giving off herbaceous and balsamic whiffs reminiscent of pine resin, fresh aromatic herbs. The fruit is a bit in the background, small red fruits with some black mixed in. my first tasting of DRC’s - 2017 Corton & Echezeaux & and this 2011 Richebourg. This wine definitely needs time to open up - initially very dominant green stems - just was not expecting that in a Pinot. In a Galaxy Far, Far Away - Richebourg ! (Vancouver, BC, Canada) : Darkest red of 7 DRC Richebourg’s tasted at this incredible dinner event - with mild raspberry and nutmeg on the nose. Moderate mid-palatal grip with fleshy cranberries melding into a mild herbaceous rose petal finish painted with subtle Guk-ganjang soy and bergamot. Enjoyable now but better in 5-10 years.

Charleston V - the wooden anniversary; 11/6/2019-11/10/2019 (Charleston, SC (various locations)) : Even as a non Burg drinker I feel like every time I have DRC you can see why it's become the cult that it has.
