Drank this bottle side by side with Ch Rauzan-Segla 2012, both marvelous wines. Pie Franco gets at least 95p just becouse its so approachable rigth now. The acidity with the dark fruit are just great, Monastrell at its best 👌🍷. Blackberries, blueberries, notes of dark roasted coffee, cigar and high polish leather. The acidity and tannins are in perfect harmony. For me this wine is perfect right now. Drink or hold!

Absolutely delicious from start to finish, front to back. Dark fruit, coffee, tobacco notes, smooth tannins, long finish. Great with food. Need more.

A lovely Friday evening with wine, friends and food 👌 Siro Pacenti BdM Vecchie Vigne 2011 Parusso Barolo Bussia 2015 Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2016 Grilled whole Entrecôte at low temperature (125-150 °C) to approx. 57-59 °. Sliced on a bed of arugula salad, small tomatoes and roasted pine nuts. On top of a spring onion sauce, for this basil potatoes (fresh potatoes). All three wines were very good, nice acidity on all three that matched the spring onion sauce …

Earthy base of black tea, fresh menthol, red and dark berry fruit. Dense and structured, but with a texture that has become softer. 3rd bottle in 4 years and the best one to date. While it felt like peak drinking window now, I already thought so 2 years ago. Once this starts adding aging notes wouldn’t be surprised to see 95+ scores here. Superior to 2015 at this stage. If this is in any way a glimpse into the future …

There were a few bottles Saturday night, all very good but the star of the evening was Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2016, at least 96p, the acidity with the dark fruit are just great, Monastrell at its best 👌🍷. Blackberries, blueberries, notes of dark roasted coffee, cigar and high polish leather. The acidity and tannins are in perfect harmony. For me this wine is perfect right now, but of course it will develop even more. Drink or hold!

Same as my last post: This is a really good Monastrell, nice structure, good balance, there is an elegance that I like. 2010 is probably right in the window now, will last a couple of years to 🙏🍷

Excellent Jumilla wine. It has high alcohol levels but the wine is very smooth and approachable with a nice lingering finish. It will likely benefit from cellaring but drinkable now.

After an hour in decanter, a tantalizing blend of brown spices, mulled cherries, cloves, violets and lavender rises up from the glass. It's both silky yet cool-toned, with a sweet and sour tension and saturating minerality that creates a tactile feel, as masses of raspberries and blueberries flesh out across the palate, all enlivened by juicy acidity. While youthfully structured, its energetic persona permits gobs of pleasure to be had as purple-toned florals and black currants linger on. There's ten …

Only brief notes from memory quite a while after tasting. Popped and poured with no decant. Intense red berry fruit with nice aging notes of leather and scorched earth as a complement. This is gliding into its peak drinking window, in my view, and has developed very nicely over the last 3 years. Best to start drinking now and clear cellar over the next 5-7 years.

Unblended Monastrell wine, sourced from 70-year-old vines and aged for 22 months in French oak. Something went wrong with this wine. The palate is extremely smooth and absolutely lacking in structure, depth and complexity. Drinkable but not very satisfying.

The nose was incredibly spicy, with crushed red berries, hints of blueberry, dried florals, and smoky minerals. On the palate, I found silky, elegant textures, offset by a mix of zesty spices, minerals and acid, as sweet blue and red fruits fleshed out across the senses, leaving a tactile, purple floral tinge. The finish was medium in length and mouth watering, resonating on violet-infused red berry fruits and lingering minerality.

An Evening of Oddballs and Curiosities : Positive surprise as I didn’t like the 2015 vintage of the same wine last year at all (84 points). A few more years of bottle age can obviously work wonders. Much more tamed and balanced and with a quite unique dark aromatic profile I like. It's a massive wine and will remain massive but old world style massive not trying to win you over (or scare you off) with overripe fruit and heavy …

This was part of a "Wines you never had before" tasting I organised for a handful of fellow wine aficionados. The goal was to showcase unusual grapes and regions in all price brackets. My, and the crowd's, wine of the night was the 2014 Ao Yun (China Cab) although Maria Teresa from Quinta do Crasto and VioRous from Kongsgaard went down well as well. Red fruit, but not jamy nor over-extracted, woven into a net of dark mineral notes such …

I had no idea this was a Mourvèdre when I bought it, but this is one great bottle of wine and one of the best QPRs I've seen. Expressive nose of asphalt, tobacco, and black fruit. Heavy on the palate, but bursting with bright cassis and black cherry flavors. Some undertones of oak and tar. Long finish. Wish the wine shop had more in stock!

interesting wine tar, cassis, espresso, pepper, spices, tobacco, leather, cedar, a bit plum, tar.. red and with time even blue fruit shows up, very mineralic and elegant wine need decanting time to tickle out the fruitier side of this wine.. medium bodied, not much sediment, stringy tannins and a nice acidity this wine should age very good 93-94
