I’m normally a huge Staglin fan, but this wine lagged well behind other vintages I’ve had and seemed a bit tired. I purchased from auction, so not sure if this just wasn’t optimally stored or if the wines is on the decline. It certainly wasn’t bad, but this bottle was just a bit generic compared to what I’m used to from this estate.

Opened for 2 hours and then decanted. Smell was a bit off but was still very drinkable. Probably on the way down from its peak drinking window.

Pop, short decant and pour at a steakhouse. Paired wonderfully with ribeye. Really started to shine after it sat in the glass for an hour or so.

From my bedroom at 70°F placed 30 min in the fridge, then opened for another 15 min or so and quick double decanted before going to the restaurant (10 min drive). This wine is at a perfect drinking moment right now and it feels that will stay at the top of its game for at least another 3-5 years.

PNP from decanter at a steakhouse. Dark and rich red berries, cassis, dark black fruit and cocoa. Penetrating and intense nose with bulky but enjoyable body, and long finish. In a nice drinking window; stylistically much bigger and primary than I like my wines but very good for the style

From a 375ml. PnP and sublime from the start. Rutherford dust and cherries for days! White pepper and a medicinal/Luden’s note on the nose along with more earthy components. Such a lovely flow across the palate, no hard edges. This is a wine I hate to love and love to hate, it’s so damned good but the pricing has gone haywire. I pick up some older vintages here and there and yearn for the days before napaflation!

PnP (from 70° opened and left in the fridge for about one hour) Intense dark red color, full body, nice balance of fruit-acidity-tannins with a touch of oak. This is an incredible QPR wine. Neighbors of the world famous Stag’s Leap Cellars fir half of the money!

Deep ruby colored. Intense nose full of dark and red berries. Still more on the fruit driven side but already soft tertiary and some meaty notes. Full bodied with a medium acidity. Tannins are integrated nicely. Good complexity and balance. Missing some more elegance. Savory and medium long finish. This is in a good spot right now, no need to wait any longer. Decated a few hours and drank with prime rib. Very good, rich balanced and everything you expect from napa cab. Still more fruit driven without the secondary notes of leather, cedar, herbs, etc. Some vanilla. Not as long on the finish as I expected. Tannins were fine and well-integrated. think it's ready to drink, not sure how much more it will evolve.

Decanted for two hours. Paired with beef Wellington and lobster tail. Dark ruby color in glass. Black cherries and cassis on the nose--dark berries, cherries and some spice on the palate. Long, lingering finish. This hits on all cylinders.

Opaque purple color turning granular ruby at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off rich cola on dark berries and anise. The palate is full-bodied with rich oak greeting you upfront. Flavors of blackberry, tobacco, espresso, burnt cedar and tar. This wine is expressly complex with a long, persistent finish of dark chocolate and mesquite. Drink now until 2028.

Enjoyed with good friends over a steak dinner. The 08 Staglin was hitting on all cylinders this night. Just a gorgeous wine and in its prime right now. It's certainly California, but with a traditional streak to it that keeps it from being overly flamboyant. A straight up fantastic bottle of wine. Staglin continues to impress.

Decanted for 2 hours. Probably did not meet that long of a decant. Exceptionally delicious! Deep purple, almost opaque. Dark fruit, cassis on the nose. Still vibrant and alive. Smooth, soft tannins. Beautiful wine

Deep and dark ruby red. Quite a tight nose with just a little bit of dust, dark cassis, black cherries and a little stinky. Rounded attack with moderate tannins (7/10) that hit the mid palate and medium bodied. Elegant with floral notes, dark fruits, black cherries and currants. A little bit of heat that diminished around an hour in. Long finish. Needed the decant. Drink till 2025.

Ok, so I bought this because WS said there was value here, and they were right. Good depth and weight, surprising cabernet aromas and flavors...some black cherry and cassis. Alcohol is a bit out of balance, but not too bad...settled down on the second day. I would buy again especially for $8.99 at B-21.

Great dark color. On the nose this wine has wonderful black current and a hint of dark chocolate. I was impressed by the quality of this Cab for its low price. On the palate I appreciated some nice dark fruit transiting to dark chocolate and truffles. This wine has firm tannins. I would purchase again!

This is an overall good solid Cab - especially for the $12 price tag. I have had a lot of luck with McManis, and I feel they are making some of the best bargain wine in California. Very approachable wine. A bit more earthy than many California cabs but in a good way. Soft tannins. Some dark fruit - cherry? I would definitely purchase this wine again. This wine may get better with time but that is a gamble (IMO).
