Opened at Inda Bar. P&P and enjoyed. Bonus wine from S, and lovely to compare against the Kei Cherbaudes '22. I preferred the Kei in terms of purity and potential, but this was drinking beautifully and shows how Duroché seems to be improving every year. Good mix of red and dark fruit and lovely concentration and balance. These will keep for a while, and I look forward to the next one!

Wanted to love this given experience with village/lieu dit Duroche 17's but this doesn't seem to be better, just oakier. Still an extremely pretty, gulpable (if oaky) pinot, but definitely not batting at 1er Cru level

Showing quite a bit younger than the 17 Duroche village cuvées. Still some oak standing out, but excellent balance and lightness, give this one a few more years.

Found this a bit less impressive than last time but great nonetheless, pure elegance, mineral, red cherry, some earth and herbs, roses, sweet fruit.

Needed a little bit of time to open up, but then really hit the spot. Cherry, flowers, some raspberry, fine tannins, integrated oak, spice, some hints of leaves, good intensity but everything balanced. Very fine!

Medium nose intensity with notes of red cherry, strawberry, cranberry. Drank from double magnum. Tasted at Pearl of Burgundy La Paulee hence the short notes as theres was too much to go around.

Birthday dinner at Liu Fu : Lifted, slightly candied nose with an elegant, spicy palate so some guessed Vosne but I thought ‘18 Gevrey since the tannins were still quite masculine. Guessed Duroche because of the understated, refined house style. Most preferred this to the ESJ and I eventually agreed, a fantastic balance between new and old-school.

Duroché Masterclass and Lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL) : Slightly reductive nose initially, opens up quickly, more ampleur and profondeur on the palate than the villages wines, beautiful complexity, cherries and white stone fruit, effortless balance, calmer and more together at present than the Estournelles which followed it.

Charles Lachaux lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL) : Magnum. Pure and bright, real finesse, wonderfully fragrant, steely acidity, gentle but firm tannins, masculine elegance, flowing and complex, attractive hint of sweet oak, long and dreamy finish. Gevrey at its most refined.

Absolutely superb. Nose quite reductive (when this will open up…) and absolutely exploding on the palate. Super enjoyable already. Silky texture, super intense, never ending. Wow.

Pearl of Burgundy EP22 Tasting (Four Season Hotel Hong Kong) : Blue fruits, floral, body a little light, seem to lack the structure. Pierre mention he picked early which could have affected it.

There is definitely some thiol aromas (vegetables and funky stuff), so the wine needs about a two hour decant. After that it’s all about black and red forest fruit, spices, sous bois, wet earth and classic Gevrey animalistic note. Unlike some other examples that I have tasted recently there is no new world sweetness or detectable new oak. The style is definitely funkier and more traditional. Yet another great and truly interesting wine from Burgundy.

La Paulee 2023 NY. Reduction on the nose first, then opening up with red and black fruits. Superb depth of flavors, lots of fine tannins, great texture, persistent, ending long and perfumed. Great wines are good at any age, and this is the case here. Outstanding potential and a great wine in the making. Top 3 best red of this Paulee.

La Paulee 2023 - Grand Tasting (New York) : Brief impressions at La Paulee. Along with the Hudelot-Noellat RSV this tied as WOTD for me. There are probably "better" wines on the day that after years in bottle I would have scored higher but at this early stage it was such a delight to drink and had drenching dark fruit and was very balanced with very fine tannins. 94

2023 La Paulee Grand Tasting of 2020 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York) : Light ruby. Again soil and herb aromas. Medium weight. Delightful sweet fruit and lively acidity with melting tannins. Outstanding, subtle, and delicious. It should have a broad window of enjoyment.

Highly Aromatic nose. Spicy, herbal, reductive, muscular. Hints of green vegetables, and Christmas spice. Palate is lean and taught. Herbal, dried fruits, more spices berry, fernet like. A full bodied wine with some funk and depth. A sleeper producer to me. Quite nice

First time trying this. On the nose initially, some pungent smell like soil. Medium bodied with black cherries. After an hour or so in the glass, floral notes with red cherries.

A bit of reduction does not suppress the dense cherries and flowers. Energetic and long. Different from but not too far behind the 2018, which has a fantastic sappy core of dark cherries.

La Paulee 2020 - Gala Dinner (Pier 60) : Magnum, served blind to Pierre Duroche, whose father made this wine. He guessed 1999! Very close. The wine is great, giving out all the nice vintage aromatics and the ethereal-oriented almsot CSJ flavors. Happy nightcap. 92-93
