Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru Vauligneau

Sorry but I have said this before, this wine is not typical Chablis, more like a good Chardonnay from further south.

Another lovely bottle of this Chablis PC. Don’t expect lean, metallic or much of any other evidence of Kimmeridgian limestone. There is more than one type of Chablis and much as we love the above, we also like this.

I think I noted this before but this is subtly a fair bit richer and full for a Chablis. I still liked it, indeed if you forget it is a Chablis then it is a very pleasurable wine, but because you know it is a Chablis then you are left wondering.

Slight edge of citrus and minerality but also comparatively full with toasty butter for a Moreau Chablis. This has potential to get even better over the next year or two.

Pale yellow with clear rim. Medium viscosity. On the nose, grapefruit, orange, green apple, honeysuckle, jasmine and flinty matchsticky and then obvious minerality that comes through on limestone forward burgundy’s. On the palate, it was dry, medium plus acidity, medium minus alcohol, medium body, roundness (more than I remember in Chablis that are a bit more lean) and a long earthy finish with good acidity all the way to the finish. Another superb expression of the terroir!

Lemon blossom, wet clay, chamomile flower, boiled oat mill. Lemony attack with high acidity and some minerality in the mid palate. The finish is a little metallic, with notes of lime soda.

Pale lemon, watery rim @12.5% abv. Medium(-) aromas lemon, apple and flint. Dry, high acidity, medium(-) alcohol and medium body. Compact and tight palate of citrus, goosebery, rambutan, mineral and slightly peppery in the back. Very fine rendition, delicate acidity frames clean and focused finish which has a hint of sweetness rounding off the crunchy mouthfeel.
