Tasted during a Catena luncheon next to the current vintage, 2015. Last bottle in my cellar. Beautiful nose that’s a dead ringer for Bordeaux with copious quantities of sweet black currant, old wood and a hint of mushroom. 92

A little extra bottle age has really benefited here. The 02 Cabernet from Catena shows generous aromas and flavors of black fruits, green herbs and spices. The round dusty tannins lead to a lenghty finish. This make me think $40+ Napa. - 91+pts

lacking any acidity.this was clearly over the hill.the drinking window is past. but decided to try anyway.laura catena was on wine library and touted the aging characteristics of their cabernets. when young these cabs tend to be very closed,so perhaps there is a relatively small window.catch them just right and get a bargain.

Moderately deep ruby. Overwhelming dill, pickle barrel nose that was hard to get by, but underneath, quite a nice medium weight wine with a green olive quality and time in hand for further development. Some secondary perfume.

Kept in the cellar to see how it might develop. When young it was a raw cabernet but after a few years in bottle this has emerged as an excellent bottle. No age at the rim, full deep red colour, lovely cedary bouquet, very " old-world" full on the palate with round fruit & balancing tannin/acid and a long finish. Not claret perhaps, but near to it. I like it. Excellent value.

Rubi atijolado. Aromas de frutos escuros, tabaco e café. Na boca equilibrado, estruturado com ótima acidez e bom corpo tânico. Estilo velho mundo como os Catena costumam ser. Final de media intensidade.Excelente.

I was impressed with this old-world-style cabernet. Dark violet in color. Dark fruits, black currant, tobbacco and tar, and some earthy herbal notes on the nose. Full bodied but not heavy, rather subtle and restrained. A bit of bitterness on the short finish. And although it may sound incogrous, there is a rustic elegance to this wine. Well done Catena!

Very good - And better a day later, dark purple, medium bodied, lightly extracted, fruit nose with faint oak notes, smooth on the palate with minimal tanninc structure, a good quaffer without much life left (87 Points).

I liked this more than I expected. It was medium-bodied, with black currants, some mocoa, and new earth. Not overly complex, nor with a long finish, but satisfied my desire while out-of-town.
