Giodo, Brunello di Montalcino

Phenomenal Brunello. Classic notes of dried red cherry, tobacco, leather. The palate was intense and long and the tannins were still young and harsh, with refreshing acidity and medium body. I am mostly impressed with the power and structure here but it's still fresh and drinkable. This probably needs more time to come into balance, but if you like tannin and classic quality sangiovese no problems drinking it now. 94pts with potential. Drink 2028-2040.

Too young still but amazing days ahead!!

Drank over two nights with vacu-vin corking between. The first night the most notable feature was startling acidity in a 14 year old wine. still has primary fruit notes but predominated by very strong red and black cherry. The second night it was an elegant wine with tannins and acidity perfectly balanced, and more dark fruit notes -blackberry, bramble and just a touch of the balsam forest floor notes you tend to see in older wines. Summary: Piccolomini BDM was the best, Giodo/Macchiole/Sodi also delicious… Sodi continues to outperform it’s price. Flaccianello and Percarlo very tight and questionable even after a few days. Cepparello: somewhere in the middle Giodo BDM: well done, towards the top of the tasting Piccolomini Santa Caterina BDM: best wine of the tasting, open for business, great fruit and finish. Needs to stay in the cellar for several more years before trying again. High acidity. Decanted for 3 hours. Nice aromas of cherries, raspberries, and strawberries. Each sip made us pucker which took away from the flavors.

Rich modern Brunello, toasted, dark fruit, ripe. Nice, a bit new worldish. Solid for sure but hard to see it in the upper nineties. I prefer the more traditional light color Brunellos.

Tasted alongside the '06 Colgin and '10 Leoville-Barton for our 100 point wine dinner. Poured through Vinturi into decanter and gave it an hour. Beautifully perfumed nose of violets and roses with trademark cherry notes underneath. A hint of cedar showed through. Very balanced - floral, a bit fruity, and old-world elegance.
