Tremendous - Seavey is an exceptional winery and wines are best with age. Exceptional Cali cab at 20 years from my latest vintage wine club shipment.

Too bad this was my last of the vintage. 20 years in and the color was still beautiful. No bricking whatsoever. Silky tannins and mouthfeel. Wines like this make you appreciate your cellar. Not afraid to hold, if I had another bottle and wanted to follow further development, but see no reason to wait, if you have a steak ready.

Last tasted almost five years ago and this wine has certainly blossomed since then. Medium deep purple ruby color, orange red on the rim. Lots of black and blue fruits in the nose and flavor. Blackberries, black cherries, and black currants with licorice, earthiness, and leather in the nose. Blackberries, blueberries, plum and black cherries in the flavor with licorice and chocolate notes. An elegant rich wine, complex, very well balanced, and a great mouthfeel. Full bodied and a lingering …

we may have waited too long to drink this… slight hints of eucalyptus and menthol, dark red fruit, medium body, and a surprisingly pleasant balsam note on the finish.

So good, but don't you dare open this yet - was way too oaky on night one PNP, and then got delicious over the nest couple of nights. Great acidity and dark, savory fruit. Delicious (but don't open it now...)

Dark red color with a clear meniscus. On nose, bell-pepper, tobacco, blackberry and blueberry. Palate similar (ex Bell pepper) with medium body/tannins and medium+ acidity. Nice long finish. 92-93 range.

Outstanding nose. Only decanted an hour....sounds like from other reviews we should have given more air time as the tannins, although not overpowering, could have softened even more...

Looking forward to the other bottle in 2025! I believe this has just crested the peak and is starting a slow decent. Still very enjoyable, significant fruit alongside spice/tobacco. Holds up to food well (filet mignon and baked sharp cheddar mac n cheese). Update: finished the bottle after 2 nights in the fridge. Added a point. Wonderful bottle, I'll aim to give it a 30 minute decant next time.

Decanted 3 hrs. Tasted every hr. First taste was tight as a drum. Always had a wonderful array of dark fruit on the nose and tongue. By the 3rd hour the tannins began to soften, also easier to recognize dark cherries, plum, blueberries and earth tones were also highlighted. Was a perfect match with a slow grilled bone in ribeye and seared at the end. Sorry to say its my last bottle.

Decanted for about two hours. Inky purple, big, full bodied. Dark cherry, licorice, herbs, big tannins. In a good drinking window right now with plenty of life ahead. We enjoyed this with grilled lamb kabobs, it was probably a little bit too much wine for the meat but still a great meal.

Outstanding. Like a warm velvet and wood tobacco lounge on a cold rainy day. Shorthand: Ripe concentrated fresh dark red fruit and lighter black fruit, cigar box, root beer (vanilla, char, spice). Be sure to decant at least an hour, and ideally two. Even better after having a glass the day after opening and leaving the bottle out 24 hours. M+ lively acid. Pleasant well-managed sandy tannins. The glass is completely stained with intense concentration of dry extract. Long finish. …

PNP. 1st of 3 bottles purchased in 2014 Dark red color, nearly black. On nose, bell pepper (+), tobacco, blackberry, and black currants. On palate, medium+ body, medium acidity, integrated tannins and a very long finish. Very enjoyable. Would buy again at 2015/2016 prices. 93-94 range.

This was my last of the '11's. The wine is past its prime window. Scant hints of primary fruit. Secondary wood and tertiary spice and mineral notes were indistinct, mixed and passable as an older wine.

Medium - dark red. Fruit and tobacco aroma. Good fruit flavor, spices, not earthy. Very mellow tannins. I have one more bottle, not in a hurry to drink but likely in the next year or so. Better to go now than wait too long.

Thirty minutes in the glass before tasting. Deep dark intense magenta color. Blueberry scone, dark raspberry, endive, cinnamon, and subtle mushroom. Smooth, dry, chalky palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish. This is likely at its peak for me. Very Dunn-esque (if you like that). Had a wonderful tasting here at Seavey, although most of the wines were not my style. All the reds lean toward Bordeaux. The property is beautiful, with a working farm.

Similar to previous TNs, but even more developed. Slow ox for 90 minutes. Initially thought there was an amber edge, but that dissipated after 90 minutes. Rich, ripe currants on the nose. Deep, rich black cherries, roasted plums and cassis on the palate with layered, slightly sweet fruit. Well-balanced with a long, satisfying finish with fine grained tannins. Remarkably fresh with the structure to probably last another 5-10 years. Superb!!

Decanted three hour. Lovely nose of black currant, gravel, mocha and lead pencil. Full bodied, rich, layered and enveloping with a long satisfying finish. This is still plenty youthful and continue to show significant unresolved tannin even after a lengthy decant.

I revisited this wine to see where it was at. I gave it a one hour decant before consuming over the next 2.5 hours. This wine needs another 5-6 years of cellaring before the secondary and tertiary notes are balanced with the primary fruit notes and the tannins will have smoothed out. The nose was dark blue and black fruit. Cassis on the taste with some violet notes. The tannins were not too drying and sharp. As the wine progressed, …

Spectacular. 1hr decant. Black fruits, tanned leather, hint of vanilla bean, graphite and dusty gravel. Silky smooth, tannins are super fine and well integrated. Depth and complexity, and fruit that’s in balance. This is such a departure from more fruit forward Napa cabs and is much more nuanced. Seavey can hold for decades and this wine is just entering a long drinking window. Drink now with some air or hold 10+.

If I tasted this blind, I wouldn’t have any idea it was Seavey. Luscious and juicy, but without any depth of flavor or intensity. Seavey did a good job controlling the tannins and creating a drinkable wine from a really tough year. Drink up.

Seavey Dinner (bellwether) : Very pretty, lightly floral, darker fruits, good acid. It's out of a 750 and next to the 2004 out of the magnum and so I can't tell if the difference in quality was the difference in bottle size or difference in vintage. This too though was quite tasty and drank well.

Dinner with Jan at Char. First of three, and this bottle was stupendous! Gorgeous nose, velvety palate. Loads of fruit, but balanced deftly by cedar and herbal notes, with just enough acidity to keep it taut. This is rich and expressive without being over the top, powerful yet still elegant. Paired beautifully with a couple of steaks that we shared. Drinking well now, but should have a nice plateau over the next several years. Just tremendous stuff by Seavey.

Celebrated a special event last evening with friends and opened a 2015 Maybach Amoenus along with a 2013 Seavey Estate Cabernet. Opened and began decant at 11:00am. Began drinking at 5:00PM. Nose at opening: The Maybach had a more pronounce nose then the Seavey. Floral and dark fruits as compared to the Seavey's more muted but rich nose. Taste at Opening: Wow! Quite a difference here. Both are very good wines but very different animals. The Maybach hits you with …

Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants) : A real treat to get to try it and I wish we could have spent a bit more time with the evolution. 2hr decant. Improved over the course of the evening. Black cherry, leather, oak, tobacco. Tannins are still firm. This wine drinks well with a decant now, but will continue to improve over the next 10 years. I’ve had 20+ year old Seavey and this wine gets better with age. Medium+ body, long finish. Great backbone.
