Tatsis Xinomavro Old Roots

Poured, and stayed, quite cloudy. Clear rim. Still fun and alive though, with med body, balanced acidity, and a high-toned red fruit profile. Drink yesterday.

A Greek Wine Journey May 17th (K&L Wine Merchants, Hollywood) : Dark ruby color, slight haze. Notes of dark raspberry, cola nut, earth, horseshoe leather, red florals. Bright and juicy forward fruit expression, surprisingly primary, over a deep secondary core. Firm and dense, nicely complex, a bit rustic. Bright acidity, firm tannins, zesty finish.

medium garnet colour with some sediment. developing wine with very expressive aromas and flavours of sun-dried tomato, kirsch, cherry, red plum and blood orange skin scented with dried savoury and medicinal herbs on a floor of leather and soil. dry, with medium body framed by high acidity and grippy tannins that match the concentration of the fruit. lovely interplay of primary and tertiaries with balsamic and savoury complexity that carries thru the long persistence. just released by the Tatsis brothers, …

Medium ruby rather deep for a xin. Intense and youthful nose of red cherry, fennel, tar, some mineral notes too. Very firm and unyielding in the mid palate with ugh acidity, depth of flavour and long finish. Good one but needs a lot of time to become accessible.

A strong smell of fennel, that persists a good hour past decanting. Not particularly smooth or rounded and a bit weak for this varietal. I was expecting something much better...
