Degorged 2023. Strong nose of oxidation. Layered.

Classic Selosse oxidation with intense acidity and a ton of complexity on the grippy finish. Quite ready and doesn't seem to warrant further aging.

March 2018 disgorgement. Wildly singular champagne. This wine screams intensity and concentration. Yes it has an oxidative character that might scare some away, but the complexity here is pretty unmatched. This has almonds, cheese, bitter orange peel, red apples, cirtus skins and piths, yeast, dough, all dancing together while maintaining piercing acidity and freshness to boot. How a wine can have so much tertiary character and still be fresh is hard to understand. Honestly this wine is so intense it …

blind I guessed Substance, very complex, for me not terroir more the signature of the winemaker. We had later the substance. That was fresher and more focussed. 95

(Disgorged in 2018) It features an impressive oxidative-style nose with strong aromas of preserved fruits, freshly baked brioches, and a hint of sherry. On the palate, it offers a robust body and complex flavors, showcasing beautiful acidity that enhances its overall vibrancy. Overall, this wine is exceptional, reflecting remarkable quality and craftsmanship.

blind, disg. 2021 I guessed Selosse but thought it is one of his BdN lieux-dits. A bit too heavy for me compared to the Krugs we had around. 95

"Made by Anselme, who has the second best hair in Champagne" (Chicago, IL) : 2023 disgorgement. This had a slight popcorn note on the nose, and while it's richer and more sappy than the other two chardonnay wines in the box set, the oxidation shows more intensely as well. You almost get a little bit of a cloying sensation due to the sheer amount of browning fruit here. My least favourite of the chardonnays from the set tonight.

At Les Avises (Selosse), Avize. Selosse Avize Chantereines. 2023 disgorgement. Apricot and sherry on nose, with a broad with cutting minerality that erupts up the nose (it sounds painful, but it’s not!) on the palate, lively and profound flavors of apricot and chalk, with powerful orange, hazelnut, and grilled lemon notes elevating the wine to the nth degree. Here, the cut is otherworldly, especially given the mid-palate density and flavor expansion, while still holding laser focus and a heroic directional …

Not blind, 3 lieux-dits cases, disg. 22, 21 and 15 side by side I was a bit "disappointed". Not to understand me wrong, I liked all the wines and I'm a big fan of Anselme's wines but 18 bottles at one night are too much. Too powerful notwithstanding the acidic energy. Every bottle was singing, no bottle was oxidized or corked but I hoped after the tasting to be able to distinguish the different sites and the different disgorgement dates. …

Selosse Lieux Dit Tasting : Slight VA that blows of. Sweet oxidative nuttiness. A hint of chalk, but plenty of rich fruit.

2018 disgorgement. PnP, this was wildly interesting, with notes akin to spiced apple punch. Underpinned by firm acidity, this was such a treat. An intellectual wine that demands attention.

Selosse (Oceanic, Pompano Beach, Florida) : This is truly remarkable. It combines outstanding depth with poise and terrific harmony. Elusively complex with that Selosse controlled oxidation, intense depth yet somehow still elegant. Great persistence. This is wine more than champagne even though there’s enough bubbles to dance on the tongue and lift the flavors. Like a great aged Burgundy on the edge of the cliff.

Jacques Selosse horisontal tasting of 9 cuvees (Krüff) : All wines were presented by Guillaume Selosse. For me the best cuvee this afternoon was 2007 Millesime, extra Brut, 94+. An unexpected no. 2 was Les Chantereines with 93+. Usually my favourite from Selosse is Les Carelles which this time ended with 92, the same as Chemin de Chalon. All these Top Four cuvees are BdB. This wine: Ripe apple and dried apricot. Delicate mousse. Very close to an outstanding rating. …

dsg 2013 A nose between chalk and citrus fruits, which will evolve on nutty over aeration. The palate is clearly on chalk. The sensation of having a pebble in the mouth is very pronounced, with an ethereal effervescence. The champagne will evolve a lot over the tasting. We will go from a very pronounced minerality to an elegant fruitiness to finish on dried fruits. The balance is perfect with a beautiful acidity perfectly integrated and which tends the whole. It's …

Selosse Lieux Dits Part 1-The Whites : Disgorged early 2017. Darkest color yet lightest body of the 3 white wines. At the same time nutty and the most minerality. Exhilarating!

February 2015 disgorgement, 2008 vintage base. Sensational. What a great find to drink this with age. It is rather sweet and dumb at first pour, but over next 2.5 hrs this develops into a stunner. Such great amplitude, depth, harmony. There is clear oxidative note but still fresh with great energy. As it develops shows a touch of bitter orange and a distinctive savory quality. Very moreish and also a reserved, contemplative wine. It goes and goes.

Birthday Clash (MG) : not blind The nose is pure Selossian. Pine nut, honey, power and finesse, killing aicidity. Refreshing, elegant. If you try to explain this special wine it is the complexity in the palate but the precision in finish. Very controversial in the group, starting with cork or a defective note. I was pleased that my generous friend opened this special wine. 97+

Beautiful and dense, quite mature with good length. This is like drinking '96 Leflaive Pucelles with bubbles. Excellent, but not quite at the level of the stellar Le Mesnil version of this wine.
