Darker fruit profile with a balanced structure and a nice finish. Excellent food wine, and OK as a sipper with a good decant. Probably better in a year or so. Needs a bit of time or air to be at its best. Some upside potential.

We opened this as a late bottle after a LARGE tasting flight, while I made cheeseburgers. Even with a torched palate and limited capacity for note-taking, this was clearly gorgeous wine. Classic top Oregon...pure bing cherry, maybe some bright pine needle, wet stone, highly perfumed, gentle little weight to it. Not complex yet, but not closed. Wish I could have taken more detailed notes- my first time with Soter. Clear upswing ahead, too.

Drop dead gorgeous aromas of highly spiced wild blackberry, spring flowers and cranberry. Cherry juice. Wild, really lively earth and dark fruit covering the red fruit. Very dense rocks and stone with some earth layered by silk. Finish sails on for quite a long time. So primary so I will try to hide my other bottles for at least 2 years but it will be challenging. I would like to have more of this in my glass right now.

Willamette Immersion Seminar - Nicely aged wines - short notes (Allison Inn, Newberg Oregon) : Medium ruby color. Vibrant red fruits, black tea and cedar on the nose. Palate of bright red fruit, spice herb/underbrush, rose pastille(?). Medium weight, long and layered finish. May be at its peak... This was one of the stars of the show for me, would have been nice to spend more time with this...really nicely structured and well aged.

Smells great - bright, fresh berry compote meets provincial herbs. The palate is very fruit forward leading with a mix of berries, candied and sweet, but balanced against burnt orange and spice - clove, cinnamon, savory herbs and white pepper. Light acidity, resolved tannins, it finishes juicy with a lingering peppery spice. Better than two years since our last bottle (and five from the first) I'm impressed with how consistent my notes have been. I don't think this bottle has …

Medium Ruby color. Forthcoming nose of cherry, spice, toasty oak which with further air yields additional complexity and ripe fruit. Medium bodied palate with soft tannins and dark fruit. Long, long balanced spice finish. Initially light sediment was decanted off. The wine continued development with additional air. Too bad it was consumed so rapaidly. There is considerably more life left in this wine but it is great now. Fantastic!

Got into this because another taster mentioned it may have past peak. That wasn't our experience. It's getting close, but still on the way up, with the expectation of more secondaries yet to develop. The color and palate are still youthful, and there's an acidity that could use a couple years to integrate. The fruit (cherry/plum) still leads, but a couple hours in revealed soy sauce & carmelized brown sugar notes, and the mouth transitioned to a more savory character. …

very dark but not alcoholic wine. Dominated by licorice and pepper and the darkest fruit imaginable it is only with meat and food this wine becomes approachable. After some air there is also sweetness but still the wine has a dryness and good balance. However I would not have said Pinot Noir if this had been tasted blindly.

Rounding up here as I recognize I don't normally embrace the Willamette take on Pinot. In that style, this is a decent wine, although a bit past age here. Acidity is dull and fruit has subsided. There is little terroir and secondary nuances are barely there...but the wine is well integrated; fruit is a light plum almost a hoisin sauce kind of flavor. Tannins are lithe but linger through but the flavor profile. Sadly, I think while most my SC …

Almost exactly a year since the last bottle, the acidity has dialed back as has the red fruit, and I found the baking notes to be much more prominent - notes of almond, yeast and crusty bread, it's very tasty. I didn't pick up the citrus notes this go around but the bright notes of fresh Oregon strawberries and tart red raspberry still persist, but the bottle enjoys a nicer level of balance. I think this has longer to go …

really nice domestic pinot. good fruit that was nicely balanced by a bit of earthy, savory undertones and a nice structured finish. the lingering fruit on the finish was really beautiful with the meal. as others noted, seems to be in a great drinking spot as the tannins are nice and soft and the acidity is well integrated.

As others have commented this is in a really good spot right now, though some air time helps. At open the profile on the nose was all the usually dark fruit suspects - blackberries and plums, beautifully sweet. About an hour and a half on the profile was richer and deeper, adding notes of charred meat, savory herbs and orange peel to balance the fruit. There's a nice green funk too. The palate is fruit driven, more blackberries and blueberries …

Great fruit expression on the nose and fore palate. A crowd pleaser, but a little lacking in complexity. Also, could use some acid, made in a bit of a CA style to emphasize fruit but not necessarily to its benefit.

Great as always. The fruit is a bit dialed back after some bottle age though it still remains bright with strawberries and raspberries, and notes of fresh cut flowers. It's just pretty to smell. Dry and nicely acidic. Sweet red fruits at the forefront of the palate, finishing with subtly tart notes of orange peel. Perfect start to Christmas.

Black cherry, currant and rose on the nose. Medium bodied and very pleasantly smooth and integrated through the middle. Black cherry and blackberry upfront with deeper notes of plum and currant behind. Seamless transition to the finish where it exhibits good length, nice structure and lasting mineral notes. I'm kind of surprised by the wide range of opinions on this wine and I suspect it showed quite differently when it was young. Drinking beautifully at present and no need to …

I have been disappointed in this wine the last few years but not in this bottle. The mineral forward taste I had previously sipped is now submerged into a complex medley of plum, blackberry and cherry fruit. Very pleasing finish. This wine is on a road to be better in the next few years.

TTTG (Brian's House) : Dark strawberry and candied tones on the nose and entry, very fruit forward. The fruit dissipates rapidly in the middle to reveal a bitterly thin backside that carries through the short finish. This gives the illusion of strong acidity at the front but it gets washed out by the fleshy body in the middle. I really expected more out of this but came away with the impression of a manipulated wine. Average

CT blind tasting group does new and old world Pinot (Brian's) : Not much here that's of interest; there's a faint yeasty note on top of red berried fruit, but there's a slightly confected, sweet edge to the fruit and what seems like a bit of lingering residual sugar. Not particularly interesting.

Odd meaty chicken aroma. Weird. Other than that, quite smooth and soft. The palate entry is lovely, with pretty red fruits. So pleasant in the mouth. Great texture; very soft and lightly sweet, but totally balanced and not too lean. Very lightly puckering on the wonderfully textured finish. Lingers very nicely. Soft and puckering, but pretty.
