Weekly tasting group RWP #342; German whites. Many Grosses Gewachs (@ RW) : Grasses, green impressions, minerals, some smoke and citrus in the bouquet. On the palate pear, smoke, minerals and some vegetables. Beautiful acidity and some pleasant sweetness. Still very youthful 90+

The Wirsching winery was the local pioneer of the Scheurebe grape in the Franconia region. This varietal was created in 1916 by the oenologist Georg Scheu by crossing Riesling with Bukettraube (a cross between Silvaner and Vernatsch/Trollinger). The vines for this wine were planted in the Kronsberg vineyard in 1952. Bright green-yellow in color and a really aromatic nose revealing scents of lychee, ripe apricot, grapefruit, orange marmalade and a hint of mint and lemon zest. The viscous, full-bodied palate …
