Drinking absolutely wonderfully now. I wish I had more! Not overly fruity or rich. Silky and smooth with the right balance between earth and fruit. Hirsch really has a treasure trove of great Pinot.

Drinking VERY well now. I love this value Pinot from one of the greatest Cali Pinot producers. If you like mushroom in your like me, then this is the Pinot for you.

Tasted the Lioco Hirsch Vyd the previous night. Same light color and flavor profile of strawberry fruit ensconced in earth and tea. I preferred the Lioco for its satiny mouthfeel and delicacy. This wine was a bit bolder but not as polished. Neither, however, displayed sufficient fruit or density for my taste.

My only complaint is that I dont care for cloudy wines and this is on the cloudy side. Strawberries galore and no surprised it drinks well with strawberry salad. Can't believe this was an $11 wine.

A delicious wine for the price. Burgundy in our backyard. Earth with a touch of spice and fruit. Well balanced. Everything I want in a Pinot without the high price tag. Hirsch wins again.

Decanting: Only 15 mins Bottle: No sediment, good cork. Look: Dark red brick with light rose edge (2007?) Nose: Fresh cranberry, cherry Body: 2% milk Taste: Black cherry, raspberry, rose petal, spice; light slight heat on the end finish. Finish: 30-40 secs. Summary: Good forward fruit & spice. 86 pts B

The nose was quite restrained even after the bottle had been open for 2 hours. Definitely New World and nice black cherry fruit on the palate with some spice in the background and a touch of tannin on the finish. Not that intense but nicely balanced. So this could well have a few years of development still ahead of it.

Back to: Fleshy pinot with lots of raw fruit. Seems to be aging a bit ungracefuly (some alcohol present now, a tiny bit unbalanced) and I'll drink my last bottle sooner rather than later.

What a difference a year makes! THe nose is still nice, but the mouth has filled out into a slightly klutzy but quite Hirsch-y feel, which if not quite up to the better Hirsch bottlings produced, still shows the dung-y, cherry, earthy notes that I like here. The length has flattened out to a decent dimension, but it's keeping with the rest of the wine. The total is a nice package.

Hirsch Tasting (Hingham Wine Merchant) : Hirsch's "village" level wine. A simple and generally pleasing style. Very sweet with lots of cinnamin and spice. Almost like liquid cookie or spice cake batter. Light bodied.

Pinot Days San Francisco; 6/29/2008-6/30/2008 (Fort Mason) : Tasted at Pinot Days. Quick notes: Marie Hirsch described this as being the village wine. Right now it's fruit from their vineyards and neighbors. I have to admit, this was the least interesting wine of their line-up and was also the wine that tasted less like a pinot from the entire tasting at the event. Strong licorice and cinnamon notes with very low acid that tasted like a flat cola. Fair.

Weekend in the Bay Area: 97 insignia, 04 Matriarch, 05 Seven Stones, and much more! (Bay Area) : I thought this was a rose being poured into my glass. Strawberry fruit punch color. Nose was showing bright red fruits. Palate full of cranberries. After a weekend full of great Napa Cabs, this one just wasn't that exciting.

A nice bottle of fruity pinot, but without any "terroir distinguishing" characteristics that we all seem to expect in a pinot noir. The nose is quite good, the mouth (plums, cherries, some wood etc.) is fleshy but a bit tenuous (now, isn't that an oxymoron???) and the length is decent but also fleshy and unformed. A decent varietal example.

Plums, smoke, curry/asian spice on the nose, with deep leathery, cola and spice on the palate. Not a long finish, but good balance, not a lot of heat, and ready when you are (pop 'n' pour). Light colored. Cola and spice and a hint of acetone on the nose. Light to mid bodied. Short finish which disappoints. Neverthless true to varietal character without the syrah heaviness in some other California pinots; yet not as good as some of the better Oregonian examples I have recently had.
