This is a N Rhone as California gets. Gorgeous meat and black fruit nose with plenty of olive and pepper. Palate has medium concentration but so much nuance and complexity. Terrific at this level.

A little tired and boring. Fruit has dissipated, and nothing of interest has taken its place.

Jesper going-away party (Peter's) : Tastes like a dense Beaujolais. Fresh and primary. Slight savory development to the fruit. Soft med minus tannins. Elevated acid. Nice and silky on the palate.

My last bottle of four. Just...not particularly fun. I find myself trying to hard to like this. Opened and serially tasted over five days with very little evolution. Really an acid driven wine. The intent and fruit quality is there...but the enjoyment is not. It comes across as underripe? I recall liking this a lot more back in 2015.

Darkish red. Dry but medium intense BlackBerry, earth, pepper and meat nose. Dry textured cherry and menthol flavours and a dry balanced finish.

Still the same..very earthy and tannic. Could use more fruit for balance

Dark red. Great fresh red fruit, violets, pepper and scorched earth nose. Light elegant Syrah flavours and a long dry mid weight finish. This had a pretty and intense nose but was much lighter on the palate and finished with a lot of acid. The nose developed a lot over an hour in the glass.

Typical Syrah, very earthy and tannic. Perhaps could use more time.

Second bottle, and I still don't like it. It has an odd combination of very dark Syrah fruit, coupled with a lightweight, aggressively tart body. I appreciate the low alcohol, but the pieces just don't come together for me.

Not quite 2 years since the last bottle but close. Opened this yesterday, enjoying more of it today. No decant either day, just open and replace the cork and put the wine in the fridge overnight. This took time to unwind yesterday as it started out thin. It filled in over dinner and took shape so allow a little air. When cooler in temp, this is distinctly tangy and more red fruited, like a dark, crunchy raspberry, with some of …

Black olive nose, red berries. Soft palate, black olive, and brine. Soft tannins and more tart red berries.

good ol' reliable Wind Gap syrah with a telltale ferrous, mineral note, but in this vintage juicy concord-grape/blackberry fruit threatens to outmuscle the secondary qualities that make syrah syrah (the dirt/animal, smoky, briny olive notes); very drinkable at 12.25% abv, but maybe this wine is better in leaner vintages?

Definitely thought this was on the thin side and lacking structure/fruit. Color was fine as was first tasting but very little mid-palate and finish. Since I bought this directly from the winery, will probably give them a call on this. Not really a good example of his talents...sorry!

I was excited to try my first Wind Gap, and came away a little disappointed. From the press I was expecting a mélange of wild Syrah flavors and textures, but instead all I got was a fruity, medium-bodied, not particularly distinctive wine. And by fruity I don't mean heavy -- it was nicely lightweight and low in alcohol. But it was just fairly one-dimensional, with little in the way of interesting nuances. Maybe it's in a dumb state, or maybe …

Consistent with previous bottle. A very drinkable and delicious bottle of syrah with good structure and low alcohol. Wish I had bought more.

Critical Care Fellows Dinner (San Francisco) : Open 48 hours. Medium clear ruby; aromatic nose with juicy raspberry strawberry fruit, almost jammy; palate is medium bodied, slight oxidation, surprisingly high acid; short finish. Today the palate is somewhat short though I'm not sure if that is from the time it has been open. 86-88

An echo chamber of a finish; so much personality and exigent in forms of Syrah tendencies. Cherry wood, white truffle, lilac and oyster shell, with a hint of black fruit. So silky and fine, I find this cuvée to epitomize Sonoma Coast Syrah in many ways. Drink now - 2023.

This has now opened up and is pretty densely fruited and fruit-forward and fun, almost unbelievably so (...) for a wine with such low, low alcohol. Delicious, if perplexing.

Popped and poured. Bright purple color. Great nose right out of the gate with notes of purple florals, violets, light blueberry notes, a faint hint of smoke and savory herbs. Juicy blue fruits on the palate with more florals and some underlying minerality. Medium+ acidity and tannins. Smooth mouthfeel and mouth watering finish. Lovely mix of old and new world. Really great wine and an excellent QPR. 92 might be conservative.

Big bite of chocolate with bacon wrapped around it. More full bodied and less acid than previous wg syrah. Still very traditional and low alcohol and more like a hermitage than a domestic syrah. I like the 2011 more but I'm probably the only person to say that. It had more pepper and acid. Good wine, nice price. Chapeau.

Popped and poured...probably a poor decision. Comes across a little austere but bright forest fruits are there with some rather bracing acidity. Comes across as old-world...but rather charming. Let's be honest, these are very young and have massive potential. Can hardly wait to try these with a few years of cellar age. Hold.
