So whilst this wine is not in the class of the BP or the straight cabernet ( and its never meant to be) it runs an easy 3rd for top level Rockford reds and capable of extended cellaring. Proof of 99 being such an amazing vintage. Each time i try 98 versus 99, 99 always seems to come out on top. This was a good deep red, slight browning edge, lovely earthy red fruited nose with a persistent minty push …

I enjoyed this but haven't kept my notes unfortunately.

Wow! This is the first Rod and Spur offering from Rockford that we've tried, and the first of our several bottles. What a fabulous wine, especially with food. This wine is 66% shiraz and 34% cabernet. It has a dark ruby color, a nose of dark red fruits, earth, a hint of tobacco and herbs and some pepper, a medium to full bodied mouthfeel, and a wonderful palate to match: relatively sweet cabernet / cassis fruit, with darker, earthy undertones. …

Nose of smoky black cherry and herbs. Full-bodied and fairly richly flavoured, with more black cherry and blackberry notes. Medium to high acid and low tannins. Quite mature and nicely balanced with a medium length finish. A nice wine to drink and a very good example of it's type.
