Intense nose of kirsch liqueur, white pepper, black fruits. Still heavyweight, with plenty of sediment even after double decanting - spiced fruitcake, raisin, with lingering chewy sweet finish. Interesting not classic vintage, but enjoyable with a chicken orzo diavolo watching SB LX.

Mature, very elegant and smooth, certainly no sign of heat, very civilized and relaxed showing. The sweet Grenache rings through with plenty of spise. Will stay here, I think, some years.

Decanted two hours in advance. Late in its drinking window. Leather, mushroom, earth on the nose. Opened nicely after about 3.5 hours. Softened fruit, less tannins than typical. Still delicious

Pop and pour into a decanter. One of those kind of evenings. In the glass, mature in color, auburn at the rim shading to a dark, brooding core. On the nose, high toned mint and cedar. On the palate, a bit of white pepper and a slightly pruny note, quickly resolving to a classic aged profile of mint and leather, with a bit of baked fruit in the background - but it's really all about those aged notes. Brought to PWTG Grand Cru Burgundy tasting on 11-9-25 Opened for one hour before tasting. This wine is big, massive, lots of fruit and will still evolve for some time. The 2004, tasted along side, was different and more ready to drink today, but I'm excited as to how the 03 will evolve over the next few years.

Another simply wonderful showing for this wine. Kirsch, black fruits, depth and length, perfectly resolved at this point, tasting like an eternal wine, not an old one. I have had some bottle variation with several cases of this wine, but the winners have far exceeded the less good.

This wine is unbelievably consistent and still nowhere near decay. Though luxurious, rich and silky, its freshness and fruitiness at 22 years of age from such as scorching hot vintage is amazing. Great performance by P�gau!

Love CDP and rhone but have not loved most of the 03s and Parker port bombs. But this wine is the exception. Elegant and yet retaining some of that rustic southern rhone charm. Smooth tannins, smoked meats, suave mouthfeel with a mix of red and black fruit. But again with elegance -- not my experience with 03 Rhone at all. Great stuff. Can't help but want another sip.

2025 BWC Summer Barbeque Magnums (and half Magnums) (Petts Wood) : No signs of 2003 heat stress or portiness on this wine. It's sweet with all sorts going on on the nose; some plum fruit, cranberry tartness and some spiced apple and clove in the background. Palate has some venison tartare meatiness, a twist of grenadine cordial and some ripe plum flesh. Just my thing.

A rare success for a European 2003. Fairy rich style but also lots of red fruit and herbs with a sumptuous mouthfeel. I thought I wouldn't like this, but it's a very good wine, full stop and especially for a 2003. My previous 2003 CdPs have been pretty poor.

Blood and iron and a sound core of ripe and sweet Grenache, still quite young. It is a great Pegau but it doesn�t reach the level of the 2001 that I drank at Niels birthday tasting in may. With Hasse at La Contadine.

This bottle was clearly cooked. A sunken cork set the tone, and the nose confirmed it�oxidized and tired, with telltale signs of heat damage. On the palate, it was just barely hanging on: notes of burnt cocoa, stewed fruit, and a flat, muddled finish. Drinkable in the technical sense, but far from the vibrant, savory complexity P�gau is known for. A real shame�but a risk that comes with this crazy hobby.

At dinner with a friend. Drinking spectacularly well with lots of secondary and tertiary flavors. Dark fruit, saddle leather, smoked meat. For a hot vintage that was not expected to last, this is exceptional.

Dinner with LT Jammy Christmas cake of a nose. Healthy slice of bacon on the nose when I first opened it, but that seemed to dissipate over time. Dark fruit, cigar box and dried thyme. Remarkably fresh for a wine this old and a vintage this hot. Fabulous with beef stew.

Despite being 22 years of age, P�gau's 2003 Cuv�e R�serv�e continues to impress. A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourv�dre and 5% other permitted varietals (primarily Cinsault and Counoise), it retains a medium-to-deep garnet color and continues to offer lush black and red bramble fruits that are flanked with notes of dried orange peel, mulling spices, Proven�al herbs, licorice, white pepper, earth and aged leather. Fully ready to go, the wine kicks off with peppery, blackberries, plums, herbs and a touch of jam. Lusciously-textured, but not overripe, the opulent layers of sweet, fleshy, jammy fruits, with their peppery edge are long, and intense. Drink from 2025-2030.

Good Wine with an Almost Interesting Super Bowl (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL) : Small glass from magnum, which was a leaker. Ripe black fruits more advanced than we would hope (but it was a leaker), lacking much brightness despite the good volume here. 89 points, but an off bottle vs previous times tasted.

Cork gently came out in one piece, initial nose had some �prune�, opened an hour before dinner. Wow, absolutely wonderful aged Pegau, Grenache jam! But richer, older, and wiser. And another stellar bottle from Premier Cru. Yum!

Fabulous, if not at the level of the bottle consumed in June. From magnum, this felt mature and getting ready to start fading a bit. Fullish, sweet and exotic. Just lacked the finishing balance of the best bottles. Fun. (94)
