Lovely Chinon. Lifted red fruit, forestry nose with a touch of meatiness. Mid weight wine but with clean primary cab franc fruit. Not jubey just a fresh exuberant palate, nicely balanced. Nice wine

Academics need wine too; 11/8/2024-11/9/2024 : Consistent with my notes from a year ago. Superb wine. There's a brightness and juiciness to the red fruit that makes it so easy to drink for straight visceral pleasure, but also a lovely savoury earthiness and forestal greenness around the fruit that adds plenty of depth. Stunning value at the price, and a reminder that I need to buy these more often instead of just going straight to Grezeaux.

An oldschool Chinon with lots of funky notes, it’s kinda halfway through natural wine. It’s ripe but very leafy, too. Medium to full-bodied and a bit rustic, yet unforced and its alcohol is on the lower side (13%), making it easy to drink. Read more: https://screwcapped.com/bernard-baudry-chinon-le-domaine-2020/

Apparently I can't keep my own advice and hold on to this for a couple of years. My last bottle was one year ago. Decanted. Now 1 hour after decant. Nice aromas of mild barnyard, green peppers, black and red cherries, blackberries, minerals, bark and mild herbs. Palate with minerals, bark, Just ripe blackberries, a bit of Earth, herbs. Medium plus body with nice acids. Mild plus tannins on the mid palate. Nice finish of tart blackberry fruit, nice minerals, …

Great Chinon. Bit of cherry and natty funk. Classic Loire Cab Franc and absolutley on point right now.

Now very much on point. Cool summer sunshine in a glass. Relatively light, with cranberries and raspberries on both nose and palate, and a gentle but brightly tannic finish. An excellent, easy going food wine.

One of my "house" wines. It's very hard to find a better way to spend $20, in wine or otherwise. Love Baudry.

Wasn't a fan. Just too rustic for me with harsh flavor and acidity. Maybe it was the year, because I've had the 2019 and that was OK. I have some of his better bottlings, I hope they show better for me.

So fresh, so balanced, so French. Beautiful hint of barnyard, pure cab franc. Just rich enough to have a little sweetness, which nicely balances the slight vegetal-ness that is authentic to the variety. Begs for another sip.

Tasty stuff, not complex, but plenty of stuffing, and good, plump varietal fruit. Kind of amazed at the fine sediment this threw. A tiny bit green. 5-12-15-8: 90/100.

Another terrific bottle, this one an even better showing than the last. Love the aromatics especially - bright dark berried fruit with a vibrant forestal greenness, matched by wonderful freshness and energy on the palate. I love Grezeaux and Croix Boissee, but I'm realizing I also need to buy more of this.

Another winner from Baudry - dark fruit, earth, and greener herbal notes conveyed with a remarkable sense of freshness and vibrancy. So easy to drink and such a great value.

GMs - Kevin back in Town again : Blind. Bright purple colour. Stalky and poopy along with black olive and blackberry. Palate has some bite to it with strong acid along the medium length. Could do with some more time (5 years?).

I mean I’ll never not love a bottle Baudry but this is still pretty primary and a little awkward. You can feel what’s behind it it’s just a matter of pulling its parts from the void right now. Hold.

A savory and earthy nose, scents of wet dirt, mushrooms, black berries, black currents and a slight hint of dried tomatoes. The palate starts off pleasant enough but after a few minutes in the glass a wonderfully plush and velvety taste with notes of blackberries and currants again as well as a brilliant red fruit acidity to balance and provide excellent structure. A serious and elegant wine that pairs well with food. Score: 91.

Decanted. Now 40 min after decant. Moderate barnyard aromas with some blackberry fruit, mild eucalyptus, and minerals underneath. Palate w just barely ripe blackberries, minerals, mild eucalyptus, herbs, and a touch of earth. Medium body w mild tannins. Very nice acids that lends some freshness to the wine. The oak comes through in a woody texture rather than flavors of vanilla or spice. Nice moderately short finish of fruit, a bit of barnyard and tannins. This is young and hiding …

At a pretty perfect place. Black cherry, herbs, cigarbox, just a hint of animal. Tannins resolved, acids in balance. Fred tastes and immediately orders some 2015 Baudry. Great showing for a $15 wine cellared for a decade +. A-

I thought that I had finished all of these off, but found a couple bottles in a box that was supposed to contain 2010s. What a nice surprise! The wine is fully resolved, but not without shape. Dark earth, game and herbs with dried red and black fruits. Minerals on the nose and the finish. Really a lovely bottle, certainly among the best I've had from this vintage. I'm not sure these words are truly doing it justice.

The Embodiment of Memory (Bob's House - Alexandria, VA) : Explosive nose - certainly the least subtle of the evening! This had dark berries, mushrooms, and a wonderfully spiced potpourri note to it. Loved the palate intensity with a great core of dark fruit, underlying mushroom broth, clove and allspice notes. One of the more youthful wines of the night, this has plenty of structure and stuffing to last a while longer. Contender for my WOTN.

5th time trying this win from my cellar and nowhere as good as first 4. Possible bottle variation. Dark garnet in color. A lot of barnyard on the nose, which lasted through the entire bottle, and some cherry, if you sniffed deep enough. Very dry sour cherry and earth on the palate. Kept looking for the fruit found in prior bottles, but not present. Average/good/drinkable is the best you could say for it.Disappointing for the vintage.

Baudry seems to me to be the standard for all Cabernet franc wines. A beautiful wine on beautiful evening: every time I took a sip, I found myself surprised by how lovely it was, how refreshing. It's sweetly fruited on the nose and palate, with blackberry and floral notes, but its ripeness is framed by a well-delineated lattice of savory and green flavors--tobacco, an umami-meaty salinity, and herbs--as well as near-perfect balance and structure.

4th bottle consumed over last 8 months. Very consistent, although not as much fruit as prior bottles. 100% cabernet franc. Nice food wine. Dark purple in color with cherry and blueberry on the nose. Earthy quality on the palate with some cedar and cassis. Tannin gone. Well made with a good qpr.

I have been working on this over 4 days now, and it is still going strong. Great earthy character - real barnyard stuff here. I am certainly liking it better with a few days to breathe - it was a bit brusque upon first impression. I think with some age this will be real nice. Needs food to shine.

just a few months of bottle age has really helped this wine. it still begins a bit reticent, the concentration the most noticeable characteristic. but the wine opens up with pretty intense tobacco smells and dark cherries, and the nose is really quite lovely. sweet red and black fruits on the palate and a pleasantly rustic graininess, some herbal undertones. this is an excellent chinon, particularly at the entry level.

Tough to judge at this point. Dark red, but not quite opaque. Smell is wood, cherry and spice. First taste is a lot of wood. Fruit was hiding. Very slight cherry. Drying tannins on finish. Better with food.

Too young to really know for sure what's going on here. Deep ruby color with dark fruit and mineral aromas, iron in particular. There is some spicy capsicum, some earthy tobacco, some ripe dark fruit, but all swirling around in an adolescent mess. On day two this is better, but it's kind of hard to see exactly what's happening. Lots of potential.
