Leather cured meats red fruit on the nose. Takes a good while (1hr) to open up. On the palate it delivers some good red fruit acidity pepper and some spices. Fruit is a little overpowered by the still heavy acidity perhaps indicating this 2010 may well get better in another year or two. Not a typical Aussie fruit bomb and actually very good.

Starting to mature. It’s a little bit sweet and sour which I don’t find particularly attractive without food. 13%, screwcap.

Drank a few nites ago from bottle. Browning at edges of glass, age is apparent. Lots of sediment here. Aromas of leather very pronounced. Fruit has faded a bit, on the pruny side now. Still somewhat sweet tho. Lots of leather and tar on the palate. Also, some cedar notes. Finish was a bit tart or sour, and on the short side.

Wine-Ark tasting Tyrell's (wine ark alexandria) : Meaty, gamey, slight horse shit smeared leather, cream and plum, sweet spice and a smidge of volatile acidity. Plum, chalky tannins that are still tight and drying, leather, that VA lends a touch of sourness to the palate...long but meh for me.

This wine just keeps getting better. Remarkably well balanced and enjoyable.

Drinking well but no rush. Still quite primary but some secondary characteristics coming through.

Smooth, remarkably well balanced. Bright fruit, soft acidity. Reminiscent of a northern Rhone, rather than a fruity Australian shiraz.

12.5% and under tasting : Saddle, spice and charcoal aromas. Restraint on the palate is very nice, there is some light grip and while it isn't very complex, it is easy to sit back and enjoy.

Getting to the end of its drinking window, so starting to lose the fullness you'd expect, with reduced length going down, but still very drinkable. drink now!!

2006 vintage

Hunter Valley Visit 2013; 4/26/2013-4/29/2013 (Hunter Valley, Australia) : Floral, some meaty chracter and chocolate. More depth and structure than the 2010 Brokenback, thought is isn't overly serious I liked this for drinking now and over the next 4-5 years.

Hunter Wineries (2) - Broke Rd : {screwcap, 13%, A$36} Youthful cherry/strawberry nose, enlivened with spicy notes. Yum. Has a peppery touch to those same flavours; open-knit and friendly on the palate. There’s nod to traditional Hunter earth, but the mid-palate is pretty generous with red fruit and spice, medium dusty tannins and a dry, medium length finish. A good Stevens, not up to the glorious 2009, but pretty damn good anyway.

Browning red in colour, the nose is all earth and a touch of cedar, the palate has a soft texture and when you look deeply there is the faintest hint of spice, unfortunately the primary fruit has faded with the wine thin and fragile on the finish, a wine past it's best. This took a while to open up. It was full of upfront dark cherry and blackberry flavours to start, but then earth, spice and some leather came to the party. Definitely a food wine - it really came to the fore with some cheese and meat. A really enjoyable wine with another 5 or more years in it should you desire.

Newcastle Wine Club - October 05 (Amici's Italian Restaurant, Hamilton) : Wierd nose ! Picking up all sorts of things from liquish into nail polish remover. Sweet but well structured fruit. Light tannins with lots of menthol and cherries. Meaty body and drinking very well at the moment, just let the nose blow off abit first.
