One of the better efforts from Hirsch that I have tasted, this 07 San Andreas Pinot delivers an array of red, bright fruit with tons of red currant, unripe and slightly green strawberry all adjoined by classy wet forest floor and a veil of mouldering leaves. The palate follow through quite nicely with close to profound balance except from the persuasive and slightly annoying high acidity. Gorgeous. Cola, vanilla, grape, wet rocks and earth on the nose followed by a deftly balanced weight. Soft, powdery but very present. Still some tannin with a touch of the good vegetal. Truly and exceptional Pinot. Wish I had cases more. Happy Father's Day to me!

PNP. Very light ruby color. Burgundian nose with barnyard, forest floor, cherry, licorice, herbal notes. Medium+ body, high acidity, medium tannins, medium+ alcohol (14%). Long finish. I would definitely guess an elegant Burgundy in a blind tasting. A gorgeous wine - complex, textured, balanced, long finish.

Pop and pour and served alongside a 2012 Patricia Green Estate Pinot. Color is that of a cloudy ruby. Nose shows earth, some pine needles and brown spice. Good raspberries and earth notes, with some soy and mushroom flavors coming in on the back end. Shows that it is from a cool weather vineyard.. The fruit is restrained and framed by citrus and spice.

One of the better CA pinots I've had in a while. Restraint and elegant in a Burgundian fashion, this might be tough to pick as CAlifornian in a blind tasting. Not the most complex of wines, but quite tasty and a pleasure to drink. 90-92

IPNC Lunches and Dinners; 7/26/2013-7/27/2013 (McMinnville OR) : Tasting. Lots of tart red cherry, strawberry, raspberry aromas and flavors along with some licorice and dried herbs. Slightly austere or brooding today on palate, giving a lean character, but with the energy and dry extract to evolve nicely. Very good potential.

Opened and drank over 4 hours. Tight and unyielding for the first 2 hours, then it settled down. Youthful and Burgundian were the thoughts that echoed thru the entire bottle. The balance was very obvious, along with the mouthfeel and acidity, that this was a well crafted Pinot. Had at Cal Phil with Webber and Puccini.

Tried two bottles about a week apart. Decanted first for 1 hour and had with roasted pork loin. Was okay to start then really came alive over the next hour. So...decanted the second one for 3 hours and enjoyed with grilled sirloin - absolutely wonderful. Might decant even longer the next time. Both bottles smelled of leather, tobacco and plums.

Fresh red fruit nose with some nutty and earthy qualities which added a certain level of complexity to it. Light-style pinot, palate was silky and there were very little tannins. Yet the wine has considerable substance and has staying power of several hours. This is drinking great now.

Pop and pour and tasted over 2 hours. Interesting nose of some herbs and spice along with fresh berries. The wine shows a lively and tangy side with good fruit and nice acidity. Fresh red berries and spice to match up with the tangy citrus notes. Quite inviting; I'm going back for more.

A huge disappointment. Tart cherry, cranberry, and strawberry with an earthy, forest floor quality. Definitely not worth the money.

Needs an hour decant open. Somewhat thick, voluptuous flavors with great cherry and rhubarb aromas. There were a few layers of flavor present but the strong cherry core somewhat overwhelmed the nuance. Having said that, I never would tire of drinking this. Some complained that the tannins were too soft, that there wasn't enough "kick", not that I necessarily agree.

Served blind. Attractive but tight nose of black cherry and earth, masked somewhat by a fair bit of oak and a good deal of youthfulness. In the mouth, very fine texture allows the black cherry, floral, and earth notes to paint a very nice, texturally fine palate. Good acidity and a healthy dose of back-end structure. A very nice wine that needs significantly more time. A-

Hirsch Vineyards with Special Guest Jasmine Hirsch (Beltramo's Wines and Spirits, Menlo Park CA) : If I were fortunate to own some of the 2007, I would absolutely drink them now. Showing beautifully today. Slightest brick color, wonderful earthy funk on the nose. Mineral, Cherry, Passion fruit flavors. Excellent.

very enjoyable, crowd pleasing wine. pretty nose of cola, sweet bright fruit - nice perfume. Good balance of fruit and acidity in the mouth and nice finish. Have had this bottle probably 6+ times and never had a bad experience.

Anniversary pre-dinner wine @ Tannin Wine Bar in KC. I was afraid that this would be a huge Cali Pinot, but I found it to be a perfect balance between ripe red fruit, earth and lively acidity. I cannot do this wine justice on five days memory, but suffice to say, I wouldn't hesitate a moment to order this again at $100. And it retails for $60.

DC Berserkers - West Sonoma Coast - Ruth's Chris Steak House : Opens very restrained, as it's still super young. Then it transforms into the "aristotelian ideal" (to quote WineBerserker Robby Schrum) of a West Sonoma Coast Pinot. Cherries and strawberries. The Hirsch-identifying anise. Some sage and rosemary.
