2023 release - oak, vanilla, monkey nuts… but it reminds me most of Hawaiian Tropic sun oil with an over-riding coconut note. Strong at 47%. I have been rating only 93-94pts. But tonight tried a few drops of water - which softens the nose but utterly transforms the palate… so so much more powerful and with a huge mid-palate/finish (they merge) which is dominated by oak without the vanilla. Before water I prefer the rye bottling… but with it, well …

Nose/Floral - more fruit. Bright floral and wood notes Sweet - vanilla, caramel, touch maple. Bright Nutty - marzipan Spicy - yeah cinnamon but not red hots. It’s there but more subtle and restrained than say a Willett distillate Earthy - no Smoky - no Woody - touch young up front, but then turns into more young cedar notes that have good depth Fruit - all. Golden delicious. Cherry. Peach. Lemon. This is where the bottle shines. Pinapple. Just bright …

Great for a 10yr. Nose of raisin and marmalade - deep, long and rich. But the nose is the killer. 94-95pts

Golden amber color with 51% Rye. Nice intensity of spices and sweet cream notes on the nose. Entry is sweet, warm with moderate chewiness barely any heat on the mouthfeel with nice lactic oaky finish. Very well done for a mid range Rye!

Great stuff, very drinkable, love the price I definitely enjoyed this more than their #1 bourbon. Most of my whiskey-loving friends focus on bourbon foremost, and I'm finally catching up to them, trying all the flagship brands. After all, my family's been gone from Scotland for so long now that real scots just chuckle when I say I feel an ancestral kinship with their whisky. Anyway, this one's solid throughout--peppery sweet notes on the nose, with a slight hint of …

Black pepper and chilli, nice spice on the nose, Toffee and chocolate, spicy but well-balanced. Mellower than some rye whiskies. Tasty stuff.

Consistent notes. Love the nose, the higher proof makes this a better pour than the 10 year Rye IMHO. Literally the same color, I’m guessing they’re close in age

Still gorgeous, consistent notes but the lower proof really holds this back compared to the Fort Nelson Reserve

Blind Sample Floral - no. Nose is more vanilla sweet Sweet - more cedar and oak Rich - yeah get a lot of oak around the sides of my palate Nutty - big time. Pecan and almond Spicy - yeah, cinnamon, but not in a Four Roses over the top way, this is more background and on the exit Earthy - no Smoky - no Woody - all medium cedar but not over the top Fruit - baked apples and …

Dangerously drinkable at lower proof. Solid cherry core. All old oak with a touch of dusty-ness.

Wood, cereal, and floral notes on the nose. A drying spiciness and a little menthol on the palate, that follows into a lingering dry and woody finish. A good, balanced, versatile rye. Tasted from a Neat glass.

Very mellow for a Rye. Nice on the front side. A bit short on the backside. One of those Ryes that everyone can drink.

FN1961247 - so I really like this Fort Nelson select, but it does ring pretty true for the normal barrel strength rye. Experience was still fun. Higher proof adds more aromatics and ethanol.

More toasted marshmallow, oak is there in spades, well integrated. Proof is in check. So much depth. Caramel, cinnamon, but not over the top. Vanilla. Love it.

Humidor bolting 91 Proof - Big oak, cedar, some orange. Slightly dusty. Best bourbon you’ll never taste? Unsure of that, but it’s solid for sure The humidor set was the last release of A. H. Hirsch Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey. In 2009, Preiss Imports decanted the remaining stock of 16-year-old gold capsule and rebottled it in crystal bottles, which they packed in a humidor case, made of mahogany with a MSRP in 2009 of 1.5k Includes a scroll with an …
