Slightly past its prime, but still very enjoyable. Deep gold, honeyed but still pretty fresh

Oxidized. Probably poor storage at the retailer.

Cool Wine Tasting Group - Chardonnay (Elgin South Africa) : (Tasted Blind) Medium yellow-gold, showing age and development backed up with distinct oxidative aromas of caramel, sweetcorn and creamed honey. There is a saline quality, and diacetyl notes add butter to the aroma. Despite the oxidative notes of the nose, the palate offers crisp acidity, broad savoury elements, and hints of bruised apple. Sadly, the wine lacks intent, finishing with nut flavours and decaying orange peel, confirming it has seen …

A rich old gold colour with medium+ intensity on the nose. Positives: Heavy on the toasted oak with orange rind, lemon, banana cream pie, mandarin &cloves. Full body with good acidity and a long length. Negatives: Too much oak, slight oxidation & burnt butter lead to a bitter finish. This might have been past its optimal drinking point. Intense color and bouquet. Strong and full of "personality". Not so appropriate for a summer outside lunch.

This wine has turned very quickly into a wine that needs to be drunk right now. A golden Sauternes-like colour - notes of burnt butter, caramel. In the mouth this still has freshness and crisp fruit but the over-riding taste on the palate are richer, more honeyed Chardonnay notes - maturing quickly. A tangy, burnt butter on the palate too. Not unpleasant, but dont hang around with this wine.

One of the most expressive chards I have ever encountered. Almost orange in aspect this wine is beginning to show its age. A fine fruit nose and a remarkable acidity fills out the front. It has citrus qualities but has undergone just the right amount of oak not to overshadow the minerality in the finish. Lovely.

Whites with Teochew Food (Lee Kui (Ah Hoi) Teochew Restaurant, Mosque Street) : Very oxidative style, rather pre-maturely aged to my tastebuds. Not that well-liked by many on the table, but I thought this was pretty decent for what it is. Nose showed lots of oxidative, dried fruit tones mixed with sweet banana, some flowers, beeswax and plenty of vanilla. Very confusing, almost Rhone like. The palate did not help in that aspect either! A lot of ripe weighty flavours, …

Deep yellow in color, sweet, over-ripened Aromas of citrus and raisins, (which reminded me of a Botrytis Semillon I tasted from Australia.) The palate on this wine was totally unexpected. Huge, rich, and mouth-coating, concentrated lemon citrus, and herbs with a delayed seasoned oak finish that perfectly carries on as the acidity fades away. Very unique and very good.

Cream soda, ginger and some tropical fruits come together nicely on the nose. Palate goes a little bit more towards the citrus fruits. Great minerality. Tart apples. Very lively. Nice long finish. Love this Chard for the price. Beats many lower end white Burgs by a mile.

Maturing, but drinking beautifully, with complex aromas of baked apple, dried pineapple, peat smoke, pear stem, and a subtle shading of toasty oak. Medium bodied, with medium+ acidity and a developed palate that shows good concentration, richness and depth - a sense of sweetness even emerges on the midpalate - to its citrus flavors without ever seeming heavy or encumbered.

Deep gold with a greenish hue. Ripe yellow fruit on the nose: apple, pineapple. Nice oxidation. Spices, yellow flowers and toasty oak. Dry and medium bodied on the palate with deep acidity. Ripe and a little oxidized fruit: apple, pear, quince and some pineapple. Mineral midpalate with nice depth. Long aftertaste with prominent toasty oak: butter, nuts and pop corn. Works for me.

A little toffee on the nose, as well as some of the oxidization mentioned. The palate was lemon and lime this time, still with the chalky minerals and steely acidity.

Full oak and butter/pear chardonnay, with an interesting secondary floral/violet quality to the nose. Richness is balanced by alcohol note and effective acid. Perhaps a bit of a one-note (or maybe a one-and-a-half-note), but balanced and not cloying, and pleasant to drink.

Toffee on the nose, little fruit. This is wound up fairly tight, minerally palate, intense finish which lifted it an extra point.

With its firm backbone of acidity, and strong intensity, I feel like this could take some more time in the cellar.
