First time drinking Rhone white from what I can recall. Very good and similar to the very robust Chardonnay from Napa. Opened an hour before serving. It was decent at the beginning and involved to be excellent

Great wine ‚ initially seemed a little too evolved. But with time came together nicely. Wouldn’t wait forever drinking this.

One of a kind. This is just a great, great drop. It turns everything into full volume but somehow, the sound is not distorted. On the contrary, one can taste every flavour that is underpinned by the richness of the wine without being overdone. Lovely notes of ripe mango, nectarine and floral notes, the body is a full frontal assault, but somehow is light on its feet dancing across one's tongue. Never feels heavy and very proportioned. Superb. Drink now …

A tad too young. Honey, apricot, not much bees wax. Oak a tad heavy now Overall still a very mind blowing and amazing exp. But cannot compare against 2006..

slight evolution in color but tropical and stone fruit notes The palate is bright and sunshiny with a full finish. No real flaws and very enjoyable. I feel it is an outstanding wine but feel vague about a precise numerical point but suffice to say it satisfies everything one would want from the wine but lacks the oomph of perfection (so mid to upper 90s?)

[Tasted Double Blind] Deep gold in the glass with significant orange. The nose is quite mute showing dusty old furniture, orange peel, dried lemon peel, apricot, baked pear, and a slightly metallic note. The palate enters on the dried orange and baked pear though the fruit ultimately feels quite tired and lack vibrance. The acid is medium minus. The finish is a tad clipped and bitter. Alcohol is high, feels like 14%+. Can’t say I love this. I landed on …

Of the 3 Rhone blancs, this was the best in my opinion. Solid structure at 30 years old, with years left to go. Palate was a little lighter than the 2006 and there was definitely oxidation (right in my wheelhouse). Out of Donn's cellar, courtesy of his wife Patty, to remember him at Chip's house.

M. Chapoutier Domaine visit : Dark yellow color. Oh la, la. Lovely nose of apricot and quince, spices, animalic notes as well. Generous palate with well judged bitterness on the finish buffering the fruit. This is grand and in very good shape at age 10. Kudos!

At this point this was an older bottle of L'oree (by a decade) then any previous bottle I have experienced, but I was happy to see that at 30 years of age this is still a fantastic expression of an aged white Northern Rhone. The bottle started with a slight whiff of oxidation that blew off and cleaned up quickly ( served in Burgundy stem). Golden color followed by aromas and flavors of apple, quince, nut, wax, and honey yet …

Wow. This is the best white Rhône I have ever had. The complexity and finish is amazing. It had a combination of lemon, dried apricots, and beeswax. It also had a viscosity and mouthfeel that was beautiful. It was still fresh and young so will last many years from now but it is in a good place to enjoy sooner. To put this another way, this wine is the guest who shows up wearing an outfit that is not showy …

Tasted vis-avis the 2015 and this is way better today. Open, yet complex, layer upon layer of fruit, still young and intense with bees wax structure. This has years to go, but is hard to resist. #Tain#DVR2023

I’ve had very mixed luck with Chapoutier’s whites. I don’t know if it’s a storage problem, a production problem or just bad luck, but a few from the 2000s have been heavily oxidised (undrinkably so - I’m happy with light oxidation but some of these reminded me of the dark days of burgundy premox). This one, though, was in fabulous shape. Beautifully rich and rounded, really mouth filling and unforgettably huge length. I’m pretty sure I have another one somewhere …

Tasted blind. Jumps off the glass with fresh lemon and petrol notes, like a Smaragd from Wachau. The palate is very crisp, unctuous but with a lot of tension. 100% Marsanne (which apparently fresher than Roussanne). Really impressive wine despite the 14% Alc. 96+

Northern Rhône Dinner (semi-blind) (AB' house, Keizersgracht Amsterdam) : You must appreciate the style but this is superb oxidative Marsanne. Straw-yellow color. Wonderful bouquet of bee-wax, kumquat, macadamia nuts, dried apricot, lemon zest and much more. Well balanced on the palate with great freshness. Oxidative style as dry sherry. Notes of melon skin.

Sourced from the caves of Chapoutier in Thain-Ermitage. Unfortunately this is a bad wine and time has taken its toll. The say when they age the become unpredictable, close and open , become special etc etc. To our opinion and experience of trying quite a few of these wines from CdP blanc to Northern Rhone these wines are best tried relatively young and fresh. We have one more bottle of this and we doubt it will be any better. I …

Northern Rhone Night (Boca, Bukit Pasoh, Singapore) : Quite lovely. The one white on the night, and this really stood out. It smelt amazing, with a beautiful old nose just wafting out of the glass in tones of honey and beeswax, sweet quince paste and kumquats, abd deeper shades of spice and stone, all seasoned with lovely drifts of garrigue and wild flower. Food: French Duration: 2.5 hours Condition: perfect Aroma: red date, steel, honey, white flowers, hints of green grass Notes: had a strong smell of oxidation at first but this turned out really well after 1.5 hours. Slightly less pristine bottle than the last one. Decanted and drank over two hours+. Did not chill post decanting and should have a bit. Deep golden color, apricots, honeysuckle on the nose along with minerals and stone. In a word: stunning. A testimony to why we need to cellar wine. Elegantly rich with honeyed fruit, nutty, but then there is this underlying core of white and green fruits, still fresh, keeping this wine vibrant and alive. Opened up beautifully in the glass, expansive palate, complex, yet drinking with ease. In London with Jon, just a week to go now.

Finally we get a great bottle. Needed like 1 hour of decanting and it has to be served chilled but not cold (Made a big difference) . Definitely one needs to like the style. We have tried this before with average results but this Magnum tonight performed at par to the hype. The notion that the wine goes to sleep and resurfaces post 5-7yrs (Chapoutier supports the theory too) seems to hold true. Well secondary fruit, rich apricot, mineral wine. …
