Winemaker Update: 2006 Cotes de Tablas Blanc (SC; 59% Viognier, 32% Marsanne, 6% Grenache Blanc, 3% Roussanne): The nose shows an herby peppered citrus Marsanne note (more than Viognier, despite its predominance in the blend). On the palate, lots of sweet fruit, like honeydew melon and mint, then a long, soft finish of chalky minerality and marshmallow. Still showing nicely, though a touch low in acid. I like what the higher Grenache Blanc percentages we're using now on this blend …

Surprisingly still drinking well - very smooth and rounded at this point, but still decent fruit and balance.

Beautiful gold in color, with floral (honeysuckle?) aromas with an undertone of stone. Very mineral at first taste, with fruit in the middle and spice (white pepper?) on the end. Medium to long finish, good acidity and crisp mouthfeel.

Wine is drinking it's best ever. It has soft yet rich edges of honey and citrus notes, some melon too. Richer and more rounded spice notes (that's the 20% Marsanne I think) and a medium light body. Viogner is 45% so that's the main grape but overall, it's aged into a fun and serious wine.

Strong yellow color like cider. It's very clear. Aromas of oak and tropical fruit. It's a smooth glass with a clean taste. A lot of layers to this one.

It's very cool to find a white with such fullness & body to it. I found I actually wanted food with this - something to stand up with it. It's clear, smooth but with just a bit of a bite, and enough complexity and body to keep it interesting. This is not one I'd drink quickly, but instead enjoy it slowly. Stems up!

Mineral, marzipan and apricot nose. White peach and light honey flavor with a touch of cinammon on the finish. Weighty, creamy and unctuous. As always, for me at least, not a sipper but great with the right food. Tonight that was Lobster with Marsala and Vermouth Cream Sauce.

Nice Cali styled Rhone wine. Full body with plenty of acidity and wet rock minerality. I was prepared to be disappointed and I was not. Nice honeyed finish.

Very interesting white, certainly nothing like the typical whites I've tried. Difficult to describe... It's big for a white, with a bold mouth feel, steel taste and a looong finish. Fun! Stems up!

Family Winemakers 2011 SF; 8/21/2011-8/22/2011 (San Francisco, Fort Mason) : The best of the Tablas Creek white wines at Family Winemakers this year. Oily and dry. Lemon drops, some tropical fruits and almonds.

oily texture and mouthfeel, some bitter, mineraly finish. all texture, no flavor, just sort of a generic, rich white. Day two after spending the night in a 375ml in the fridge, less oily and petrol, still rich, a much more appealing finish of white peach, less bitterness.

Very easy to enjoy. This wine showed tropical fruit on both the nose and palate. Had wonderful acidity and minerality to match the tasty fruit profile of pineapples, lemon verbena, and stone fruit.

Semi-sweet offering with a crisp nose. Mellon and buttery notes on the palate with a smooth finish. There is not a lot of depth in the wine and it left me wanting more acidity.

This is showing a more oxidative quality--looks like there was a ding in the screwcap. Very nutty, shows on the nose and finish. Not flawed, necessarily, but not a style/evolution I like.

This is one of those silly accidents--bought half price in a grocery store bargain bin. I was optimistic since this has a stelvin closure, and indeed there's no sign of oxidation. Dried apricots and an interesting petrol component I often associate with central coast Grenache Blanc on the nose. The palate is full, creamy and rounded, though there is no obvious oak--seems to be the viscosity of the Viognier and Roussanne at play. Very refined impression, no rough edges, seams …

Opened the evening and complimented the cheese, sushi apps. Drinks well. Love the So Rhone blends, especially the apricot and peachy undertones. A good ol standby for the non-ABC crowd.

Minerality balanced by body and creaminess. Lemon, peach, pear, cream. Unfocused and an odd finish -- it gets a little industrial cleaner on me. Better with food. I could see this with fish, scallops, chicken dishes (fried chicken as the acidiity is there), even Thanksgiving. Received as a gift. Though I didn't dislike it, I probably wouldn't purchase in the future.

Drinking really well now. It's rippening and getting richer with light nutmeg nose and medium melon amd asian pear flavors with touch of honey. Finish is very pleasant. The viognier in this is gaining aged complexity and the marsanne richness compliments it. Can't wait to see where it's at next year.

Tasted 4-26-09. Nose of white peach, minerals & wet stone, bit of melon, small amounts of floral & vanilla. Palate is low intensity & shows minerals but almost no fruit--very small bit of white peach & pear; restrained acidity. Slightly viscous mouthfeel. Light golden straw color. Really need to warm up for the nose to open up at all. Seemed very closed and first and it wasn't served overally cold. Nose of apricots and apples. More pears with apples on the palate with nice richness and spiciness in a full body. Leaves a little bit of a black licorice tingle on the tongue.

Wonderfully complex, crisp, and well-built Rhone blend. Citric nose with a touch of Chablis-esque minerality. Some sort of honey-roasted nut on the palate.

Nice light gold color and a little mort tartness on the nose this time, a nice bright stone fruit texture with citrus touches and an underlying minerality. Crisp, clean, and a wandering fruit grip that showed a firmness on the palate and more of a lingering finish than I remember from before.

Ripe, yet restrained with aromas of overripe fig. melon and perhaps a touch of spice. Medium bodied and dry on the palate, with some rasined fruit flavors and supple acidity that make for a fun wine, but one that lacks the focus or intensity to be great.

Light gold color and served chilled which took away from the nose at first, but as it warmed there was wandering melon, citrus, and a sense of minerals underneath. Again, chilled it showed a crispness at first, that mellowed and had a whole different viscosity as it warmed, gaining more grip and layers of texture. This does not beg for food...but I might enjoy it more at a meal.
