Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Temperance Hill

Lemon reduction with a wood frame (woody notes, not butter or vanilla), toasted white sesame seeds. Good acid. Needs some more time, at least a year. Diam 30.

Really enjoyed this wine - reductive, for me strong notes of matchstick, unpopped popcorn kernels, lemon peel. Medium/Medium+ acid. Only have a couple more so don't plan to open these for another 5-10 years

Matchstick (these Temperance Hill Chards always show that for me, even if it's more of a reductive winemaking thing than a terroir thing), lemon peel, wet stone, white pepper, fresh cilantro, chamoy and ripe mango on the nose. Smells very distinct, with a medium + intensity of aromas. The palate is a little different, showing flavors of ground cumin, ground cardamon, ground coriander, dried fennel and black pepper, with some ripe mango and ripe papaya to back everything up. Of the three Chardonnays this was the most powerfully reduced with matchstick and flint, salty lemon/lime, great length, mouth coating grip. Happy to have several of these (as well as the Berserker Cuvee) but will plan to hold for a while.

PNP, worried that this would be too young but needed an excellent chard. Excellent fruit, acidity, length. Wish I had lots more.

My second time checking this out, as I was curious to see if a couple of months had tamed the beast at all. Overall verdict is that this is still too young to drink right now, especially if you only purchased one or two. PnP, consumed over 3 hours. Appearance: Clear, medium lemon. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with developing aromas of cardamom, pear, red apple, honeydew, and asparagus. Palate: Dry, medium+ acid, medium body, medium+ intensity, 12.4% abv with developing flavors of honeydew, pear, and anise with a medium+ finish. A bit too reductive for me. Hints of butterscotch and other such things. Had on the second day. Much better and more balanced. I bought this to age and the rest will age. Trying again in 2027. But it will be better even later.

Clean lines, great focus, with fantastic length. Temperance Hill always shows a bit of reduction in its youth, and this is no exception, with flinty struck match, smoke, curry leaves and savory herbs. As it opens it moves toward serious minerality, stones, sea breezes, sage, star fruit, more mineral, and stone. The savory reductive notes coil around intense lemon and mineral. The polished texture and stoniness with a ripping bright citrus finish make the 2022 Temperance Hill feel straight out …
