In my cellar since 2008 when purchased from WTSO. Decanted at 5pm and tasted over the next 4-5 hours. Wonderfully youthful looking shimmering, opaque, dark garnet color with no sign of bricking even on the rim. Floral and earthy nose gives hints of dark berry fruit within and a little creamy vanilla from oak. Palate is bright with acidity and dusty fine grained tannins. Big structure and dense texture but refined and not at all heavy, leaning toward a surprising …

Very dark with fine sediment. Nose of dark berries and oak spice. Velvety texture until the finishing tannic punch. Very concentrated and long.

Light medium red. Very savoury nose, meat, tapenade, forest floor and some red fruit. Dry earthy black cherry and spice flavours and a nice dry earthy finish. Got that this was Tuscan early on. I had a few of these in 2012 and remembered that I liked them, even though my notes say I didn’t.

Cork tightly adhered to the neck. Decanted for 45 minutes prior to pairing with homemade pizza. One of the last vintages that had Sangiovese grapes in the blend. Complex nose features blue, red, and black grapes, leather, hint of forest floor. Tannins largely mitigated. Brings on nice plum on the palate, amidst good acidity. Dry and was an exceptional pairing.

A well crafted classical SuperTuscan, elegant and rich structure, great balance and length. Made from a blend of 40% CS, 40% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese. Deep ruby colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of smoky cherries, cassis, tobacco, chocolate, spices, toasted oak, hints of leather. Medium+ body, savoury and rich, persistent fruity flavours with smoky, earthy and spiced notes, hints of chocolate and coffee, high finely grained tannins, lengthy finish.

Deep ruby with a small garnet rim. A nose of dark blue fruits with a lovely freshness. (Mint?) The palate still has plenty of ripe juicy fruit with a compelling savory note. Medium plus acidity makes this great with food. (Served with Bison bolognese) These wine are built to age. Stiil plenty of life left. Last bottle.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (EBCC) : Blind. Dusty red color with slight bricking. Aromas of leather, plum, soy and black currants. Plush, with flavors of dark fruit and leather. Balanced, with a long finish. Delightful, and my favorite in the flight. 93+ pts. This had been double decanted off its sediment 90 minutes before the flight was poured.

Dense and weighty, velvety and polished with blue red and black fruits. Some wood tannins remain but most of the oak effect has faded, which is just what the 2016 Guado Al Tasso needed.

Beautiful black cherry fruit and great acidity. 20 minutes of air allows the nose to open and bring in some Italian dirt. After 40-45 minutes the mid-palate starts to really show through and extend the length of the finish.

Really impressed. Still great nose and classic varietal attributes. I think that this will still be lovely in 5 years. Served with grilled lamb chops and spinach. I want more.

Very dark red. Plum, some oak, black berry nose. Rich, but only medium body, blackberry. I'm not getting any tell tale cabernet herbaceousness. This is beautifully ripe and silky.

Friday Night Brown Bagger (R&D's) : Blind. Dark color. Hints of prune and black fruit, with woody/stemmy qualities and just a hint of bouillon as well. Becomes less pruny as it opens in the glass, showing better balance and fruit.

Haven’t had this wine for awhile. Noticed the price fir recent vintage had gone up only slightly and figure I’ll open this to see if it’s worthwhile to fill up more. This is at prime drinking right now. Still dark purple. Luxurious cedar oak with black fruit. The savory herbal notes from the bygone era of more than a dollop of Sangiovese really make the case for its inclusion on this showing. Tannin is well resolved and sweet. Nice length. …

This was not in very good shape, I'm not certain why. Fruit was a little absent and there were some bitter notes that never quite went away. Unexpected.

Few hours of air. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance is clear, deep intenstiy, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dark toasty oak, coffee grounds, Tuscan earth, sour red cherries, sour plum, blackberries, blackcurrant, leather, graphite. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries, sour red cherries, sour plum, earth with emerging mushrooms, dark spicy toasty oak. …

At Hedonism in UK. Much younger tasting even than the Vietti. Oak full throttle, too much for me. There’s red fruits but they don’t create enough balance.

Opened without decanting and the wine was ready to go. Ripe nose of berries, cherry, raisin, and subte hint of tea. Ripe fruity and smooth palate with high acidity. Hint of cocoa. Spicy and heated finish. Crowd pleaser and should be great with food.

Dark red. Fairly tight nose of plums, earth and black cherry. The nose does get more interesting after an hour or so but doesn't really show anything very interesting. A decent wine that shows it's Italian more then anything Cabernet.

Dark red. The nose is somewhat rich with coffee and dark fruit. Te flavours are fine as well. The problem though is the acidity. Too much and leaves the finish a bit unbalanced.

Every Christmas night, my brother makes Cioppino and serves up a great feast. I wanted to bring an Italian wine to pair with the rich Italian fish stew, so I grabbed this from the cellar. Unfortunately, the wine is still quite tight and tannic. Even with decanting, it was barely starting to open up by the end of the evening. Sit on this wine, and wait at least another couple of years. Maybe will rate higher later.

Dark red. Very intense nose of dark fruit, cedar and earth. Quite a bit of secondary development already. Nice rich flavours and tons of tannins left. Quite concentrated as well. I was surprised to see haow evolved the nose was becoming but there is lots of structure here. Interesting.
