Elvio Cogno, Langhe, Montegrilli

Decanted half an hour before drinking. Nose: directly after decanting very nice fruit, later sous-bois, wood and some other intriguing floral or spice-like notes. Taste: quite nice fruit. The tannins were not fully resolved, the alcohol 14% quite burning. The acidity was OO with food, on its own to prominent. This wine has evolved well into an attractive wine since my first tasting, two years ago. Might have been kept for another year. Because of the alcohol no 89. 88-89.

Blend of 50% nebbiolo and barbera each. Color: light to medium ruby-purple. Nose: quite closed. Taste: red berry-fruit, with notes of rose and truffle. At the third day more fruit. Despite some deposit, there still were some (slightly drying) tannins. Good acidity. With 14% the alcohol was a bit burning and to dominating. This wine needs at least one more year of cellaring. To young to rate now, but it probably has a good future.

Fresh, elegant, mineral, fine fruit, good length. Very nice. 90-92

Quite alcoholic on the nose, peppers, capsicum, hint of oakiness and black fruits forms together to have a very robust nose and the palate as well. Good acidity, fruity, low on tannins and medium to heavy body. This wines is approachable and i thought its a wine should go (well) with food. Some Spices shows up in the rather short, fruity finsh too.
