Almost a year ago I had 2013 vintage - 91 points . This one is about the same, but on stereoids. 14.5 versus 15.5 % ABV in this vintage. More powerful, more muscular, darker, dense, thick and heavy, straight from scarry dungeon. Best much for it - horror movie. Big load of coffee, even bigger load - herbs. Cocoa, black cherry, kirsch, spice, tobacco. Texture - dust mixed with milk. Long finish with spice, tobacco, kirsch and red currant. Big …

90 minute decant, 60 F. Deep teeth-staining ruby color. Herbs, chalk, blueberry, a hint of tobacco leaves, lavender and eucalyptus on the nose. Light acidity, medium+ body. Drying tannins still a bit stiff, softened up with a bit more time and temp, alcohol still integrating. Plum, tart blackberry, dried leather, pepper on the light, uplifted palate. Long savory finish. Have to think this will improve a bit over the next few years.

Don’t feel this is over the hill. Nice acidity to keep this going for a few years more. Well/ integrated and balanced. Not heavy inspite of 14,5% alcohol. No longer my style wine, but once in a while, why not?

Pretty clear from the other tasting notes, this wine is past its best showing. That said, there’s still plenty to enjoy here.

With deep garnet, the bouquet yields shoe polish, polished leather desk and church pews. As it opens, there is roast beef, marinated plums and red cherry with a touch of tangerine peel and brown sugar crystals. With a sweetly succulent texture, this mid-bodied CNP is filled with molasses, humbug sweets, balsamic, black pepper, black plum compote and a twist of spice. Whilst the extract is heightened by generous alcohol, there is enough sweetness to counter. The tannins almost feel shapeless, …

Without even asking, the kirsch, herbs, forest leaf, white flowers and spiced, dark red fruits show up. On the palate, the wine is even better with all of its soft, silky textured, elegant, red fruits. The wine is a bit tannic at the moment, so give it a few years and as good as it already is, it is going to be even better! Drink from 2023 - 2037

Mid garnet to orange rim Umami bouquet with dry spices, dust, marmite, earth and dried pottery clay. There are black fruits over red with dried black cherry or plum, mineral, roasted herbs, smoke and Xmas spices, especially star anise and nutmeg. Medium-bodied, the entry is rich with a liquorice stick note, a firm texture with sour acid elements and flavours of leather, black cherry, plenty of spices leading to a hot paprika note, pencil shavings and pepper-encrusted fillet steak! Bone …

An interesting comparison to the 2004 Two Hands Aerope Grenache (see separate note). Both 15% alcohol and similar prices, but for me this is a much better wine. 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% 'Divers'. And old vines of course. I really think those other varieties help to tame the sweetness of high alcohol Grenache.

Drink up. Three years ago this was a 94 pointer for me - now it’s flat by comparison. Same profile but lost its grip. I have had this wine several times over the past 5 years and wish I’d consumed by 2019. Still enjoyable but soft, chalky on the finish, with fruit muddled compared to a few years ago. Slight stewed fruit profile.

Medium purple/red color. Aromas of black berries, kirsch, cola and a touch of smoke. Ripe, medium-bodied fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length and well-integrated oak and tannins. Juicy and supple on the palate. Still very fresh at 14 years of age.

Had Brett, surprisingly. The second bottle which had some wine bypassed all the way to the capsule was actually in much better shape.

At room temp this was a little hot and syrupy. Pulled together when cooled. Fruit was on the larger scaled, dark side. A little sandalwood and cedar spice. Moderate finish. Chalky texture on finish. Probably a touch past peak for me. Just a touch overdone, but still quite enjoyable.

Big nose with garrigue, beef jerky, and plums. Full bodied, luscious, and fresh. Plum palate with herbal nuances. The 15% alcohol is apparent on the finish, and detracts from it. Kind of a letdown, but still a solid wine.

Very dark red color. PNP, drank glasses over 2 hours and again on day three. This was kind of big and brooding the first day. The nose showed black fruits, liqueurish on the palate. It didn't really feel like CDP at that point. 48hrs later it was clearly characteristic of CDP, but it was darker fruited, herbaceous, peppery and had a baked fruit quality that did nothing for me. It's fine, but stylistically big and just uninteresting. Not sure that …

This is pretty plush for a CdP. Smells of garrigue. You can tell this has more Syrah (15%) and Mourvèdre (10%) plus 15% of Vaccarese, Cinsault, Terret Noir, Counoise and Muscardin in it than most CdPs (60% Grenache). Fruit profile is more blue fruits and plum rather than cherry. Some garrigue as well. To me this is well made, but kind of boring. This doesn't scream CdP to me. Better with air, but I won't seek this out. I much …

No reason to pile much more onto what's already been mentioned in previous reviews. ROCKNROLLER's tasting notes are spot-on. The complexities of ten years of aging are noticeable in this silky, voluptuous and well balanced offering. This is in a great drinking right now and is thoroughly enjoyable. Sad to see the last of three bottles go, but am happy to have other vintages in the cellar.

Did not taste the traditional Southern bouquet here. More of a generic, polished red, with some plum overtones. Hoped for more pronounced aromas of lavender, earth, olive -- found none of it here. Perhaps still aromatically closed and needs more time in the bottle. A bottle of '09 San Polo brunello opened immediately after offered a remarkably more enjoyable fruit and texture.

Very dark red/purple color with a garnet hue. Decanted for 2 hours and drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. This was drinking well with the air. The nose had a fresh herb de Provence aroma with some lavender and roasted meat along with the blackberry and black raspberry fruit. The palate was nicely balanced with full body, layered fruits of blackberry, black raspberry and kirsch along with pepper, spice, sauvage, and nice silky tannins with a medium plus finish. Very …

2006 Southern Rhone horizontal tasting - CDP (Crystal Wines) : Alcohol : 14.5% Tasted Blind. Dark purplish red, good vibrant. Expressive aromas of grill meat, game, red cherry and Indian spice. Long mineral finish. Though a little bit of heat at the end. Drinking quite well now. No prob to age but …

Trip to the Southern Rhone; 6/11/2009-6/12/2009 (Avignon, Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and the Dentelles du Montmirail) : Pretty good. Nose was pretty classic CdP, with pepper, roast meat, bacon crisps along with plums and cherries and a touch of soil. Still very young and primary on the palate, with dark cherries and tons of spice at the forefront. Nice prickly acidity though, with fine tannins giving some bite. Trip to France; 10/13/2008-10/24/2008 (Burgundy, Rhone Valley (Chateauneuf-du-Pape), Paris) : Candied nose with cherries and raspberry, hints of leather. Dense fruit palate, very primary and hot, but some earthiness and fig underneath. Medium length finish with some tar and scorched earth and hint of cigar box. Firm plush tannins. Might be a little more concentrated than the '05. Excellent.
