Powerful, velvety, with a wonderful balance of tertiary notes and darker fruit, and plenty of life ahead

Coravin taste. Still big fruit and quite powerful. Still some tannins holding court. This is rounding into shape very nicely, but I think will still be better in a couple of years.

Dark purple with pink edges. Nicely developed dark fruit, espresso, and forest floor nose. Dry slightly rich plum and black cherry flavours and a dry balanced finish.

Our first bottle of this and we were quite impressed. It's a pretty powerful wine with plenty of fruit, but balanced out nicely by very lively acidity and some nice herbal/earthy secondary notes (especially on the nose). Paired beautifully with a beef ragu and gnocci. For our palates, the tannins are still holding court here, and we will probably like this even better in a few more years. No hurry at all to drink these, and I think that the …

This 2009 Orma, by now 11 years old is a solid 92. Medium to Dark red, round and balanced tannins and acidity reminds me of medium dark chocolate taste with black berries.

Drinking great right now, plush Sangio goodness - deep dark cherries, earth, anise - with some Cab-like characteristics - mint, dark chocolate. Full, but not far or cloying. Will broadly span most red wine food categories, and also drink well on its own.

Not final. After two hours decant..this 7 years old cellared bottle is dark red, narrow legs coming down quickly. Aromas of dark berries, tobacco and tar. At taste still alcoholic, tannic and not harmonious yet. Let us check tomorrow.

Big and flavorful but not a fruit bomb. Complex and strong.

Medium dark red. Very good aged nose, wet earth, mushrooms, tobacco , black cherry and cassis. Dry earthy, warm cigar tobacco and cherry flavours and a dry tannic finish.

Medium red. Open nose at first, red and purple fruit, smoky oak and hints of earth. Later it shuts down and the oak dominates. Dry earthy red fruit flavours and a very tannic finish. Way to early.

Somehow at nine years this remains a tight tannic monster of a wine. Decant and drink with steak or hold and see that it softens. Drying black tea astringent black fruits. Hot brutal and sharp - something for the Viking BBQ.

Three years since the previous bottle, this remains a powerful dark intense red. Getting more plum than blackberry this time. A little hot. Acid and tannins to last. Begs for steak.

At this point, I would advise decanting for at least an hour, as it starts with way too much alcohol and incoherence. When everything gets more integrated, the tannins floats up as well. It is medium-full body. Not much aroma to speak of though. It eventually arrives at somewhat balanced state to be enjoyable. Tannins is still too overwhelming to drink by itself. Pairing with some dark meat is almost a must for t to release its full potential. Maybe …

Opened an hour before pouring. . .would have benefited from additional time. All the elements are there and in reasonable harmony. The wine smoothed out in the glass. Needs more time in bottle, or longer air time.

This wine is squarely what you'd expect. It's got clear Italian character, and specifically is easy to identify as Tuscan. It smells like Sangio - red cherry, earth - and Merlot - plum, spice. Add some tobacco and licorice to that and you've got the idea. [Edit - got this wrong - no Sangiovese in this wine. Cab Sauv is the blending grape here]. It drinks like Europe 2009 - lush, open and still structured with enough acid to age …

Very dark and broody, this Cab dominant blend has many years left in it. A joy to drink now after a few hours in the decanter but I'm sure this wine has more to show. Great concentration and powerful structure make it one to watch. Cassis, graphite, dark plum, good acidity and firm tannins.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75) : Darker with red hues; reductive and new smelling, purple fruit, plastic; tobacco, blackberry, ash, rich and very new, sweet, some tannin, green pepper, fresher fruit; good but needs to be reassessed in a year or so.
