This is deep and dark, slightly muted soupy fruit, subtle but substantial acidity. A bit overwrought. Calls for meat or game. Grabbed it out of a “bargains” cart at $19.96.

Drinking well now but will be interested to see where this ends up in a few years.

Rusty clear red. Raspberries on the nose. Delicate fruit, berries on the first sip. Tannins still very much there. Wonderful wine.

A wonderful mid-week kind of Pinot. Earthy tones dominated with fruit backgrounded.

Friends at the lake for a paella dinner and the 1.5L bottle of Cristom was a hit. Not too heavy, great flavor and a highly drinkable wine. Not sure it has too much longer, would suggest drinking it within the year.

Notes of tart cherry with some earth throughout. Refined and consistent through the palate, has good acidity and restrained tannins. Medium length finish.

This Pinot was lush, with a mocha hint. Known for using native yeast to help the fermentation, this dark beauty came in #2 out of 6 Pinots offered for the event.

Nose a bit acrid, the wine itself is dominated by very powerful acids but does not have the tannins or fruit to back it up. Simple and short finish. Will not buy again.

Nice wine. Plenty of cinnamon spice and some nice red fruit with a silky mouthfeel. Drinking well right now.

Aromas of pinot type red fruits but a bit restrained. Lacks fruit (?) which leaves a sort of earthy and bitter aftertaste. Can't put my finger on it but there's something to the wine I don't like.

Garnet. Big, sweet, spicy nose, most inviting. Much lighter flavour than expected - very fragrant, spicy, floral. Excellent tannins - drying, soft but structured. The core isn't quite what I'd call fruity - rather it's a tangy acidity that's light and cleansing. The finish is bittersweet. This is very serious, and very good - but not quite as generous as I'd like. A rounder fruit core would make it excellent - but it is full of character and undeniably special. …

B&J's b'day at Trompette (La Trompette, London) : Half bottle recommended instead of a Magnien Marsannay. Round, sweet-fruited but in an elegant, harmonious way rather than cloying/confected. Quite bright. Decent length. Positive. ***

Over two days Immediate blast of Oregon Cristom funk on the nose with dark cherry, forest mushroom and a hit of clove. Rich mouthfeel with nice acid to tannin balance and a cool miso/soy quality with lingering creosote smokiness. On the second day the flavors have integrated even better. Even young, this is beautiful and a great foil to a rich mushroom risotto.

Drank half the bottle the night we opened it and saved the other half for the next day. On the first night, it opened with a great fruit flourish and plenty of Oregon earth; in the glass, it developed darker, more astringent notes of dark, dried fruits and, perhaps, a touch of leather on the nose. Such an excellent wine right from the off. It was just as good (perhaps better) on the second night. Still held flavors of dark …

Willamette Valley - Tasted at winery : This was not the best of the lot we tasted at Cristom, but still a very well made Pinot Noir. 20% new oak. 20% whole clusters brings a bit of woodsy taste to the wine. The nose was of candy and cherries, not overdone. On the palate, flavors of red cherries, cloves, cinnamon and earth. Mouth filling tannins and almost fully integrated. Another year, or two, will let these wines develop into something …

Very good with dinner on NYE. Red fruit and spice on the nose carries through to the palate. A hint of something feral, in a good way, with this wine. More fruit forward or juicy than I typically seek out, but relatively balanced and delicious with a nice, drying finish.

Visits to Cristom, St. Innocent, Johan, Argyle, Dobbes, Chehalem : Fruit forward aromas and a little stewed fruit comes up as is typical for many 2009s. Overall though, it's still pretty mild on the nose. The palate begins with mild acid and tart flavors, but it's quite light. Slightly green and a bit thin in texture as well. The finish is spicy, mild, and off balanced, with a tart green streak running through it.

I'm usually a fan of this cuvee, but the 2009 comes across hot and lacking subtlety. Loads of strawberry fruit on the nose and palate but the heat just beats you back and highlights the shortness on the back end.

Had this off the wine list at The Iron Horse Restaurant in Cincinnati. A fine drink with appetizers. Fruity, round, approachable, but monolithic. Like most other 2009s, this seemed ready to drink now and I don't see anyone complaining about their experience with this wine.
