This one is past it's prime. The acid is taking center stage - not bad, but not what it should be. Heavy fig dominates with dark earthy bramble. Not much more as the acid dominates.

Storage is everything, and this mag of David Arthur Merlot has been stored impeccably since release. After reading notes here prior to pulling the cork, my expectations sank low. Fearing that I had let this big bottle go too long—too far. Through the bottle the cork looked perfect, but sadly it was soft and came out of the bottle in two clean pieces. Bizarre bottle - think it was off. In fact this was by far the most disappointing David Arthur I've tasted. The nose was completely muted. Even after some air there wasn't much but some simple red berries, spice and light earth notes. The palate is also dull. Not a lot going on. Bad bottle I suppose. Just not DA quality juice.

Pop and pour from a magnum. Cork showed moisture halfway up, but broke-off while pulling and couldn't be retrieved. This was a moestly enjoyable wine that is 1-2 years past its prime. Had I not known better I'd have guessed this as an overaged left-bank. The overaged is right. Drink up if you have any.

Dark ruby color with very little bricking. Aromas of ripe cherry, cola, tea leaf, cassis, flint and chalk, slight veggie notes, and some mint. The stemmy notes remind me of a Pichon Lalande. Medium weight and good balance. Everyone was expecting this wine to show a little more age, but the freshness and the acid were a great surprise. Medium length on the finish with soft velvety tannins. Definitely not as good as the cab but still fun and interesting.

Dark purple color. Lots of earth driven dark black fruit. Blackberries, currant, earth, tar and cassis. Palate shows more dark fruit. Very refiined and Old World in style. Some nice white pepper and cinnamon notes on the finish. Excellent balance but maybe a little muted in terms of fruit extraction leading to a somewhat tapered finish - though this is still fantastic.

Very interesting food worthy red wine. Tobacco leaf, cherry, earth and spice on the nose and aromas of raspberry, cherry, savory spices and a hint of cranberry. Nicely balanced with fruit and acidity.

Popped and poured, dark purple glass staining color, very fleshy and well made. One of the best Meritaggio's I've had and it is drinking well now. No regrets to drink now with a nice steak.

Blend of Cab, Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Sangiovese. Decanted for 45 minutes. Medium-bodied wine that is purple/black in color. On the nose, expressive black fruits and cedar. On the palate, cassis, mint, and some chocolate. This wine has a nice balance, but the long 30+ second finish is a little on the tart side. For the first 1-2 hours, the fine-grained tannins were a bit drying, but with time, this resolved itself. Very nice drink with food...if not …

God this is good! Typical DA extraction and intensity. This is unlike any Meritage you will ever have. Dark plum, black berry, bing cherry and leather swirl across your palate. The cab in this is obvious but the sangiovese really adds a unique tartness and zip to this wine. Just awesome. Finish lasts for almost a minute. Great stuff. Wish I had more!

Honeymoon in the Wine Country: Barrel Sample - Mostly Cabernet with Merlot and some Sangiovese. Minty and a bit medicinal with eucalyptus. Flowers. Good length, but not nearly like the two Cabernets. Somewhat astringent.
