Decanted for 1.5 hours with some sediment. Very expressive nose with dark red fruit, spice, pepper and a touch of smoke. The medium bodied palate followed the nose but with more spice, more pepper, some blue fruit and a touch of earth. The acidity outran the fruit by a bit, and any tannins or oak were completely integrated. Probably won't improve but should hold for some years with the possibility of some loss of fruit. Definitely needs air up front.

At the tasting room. Lovely nose red fruit and spices. Great fruit and white pepper, but the finish is a little short.

Cranberry and plum skins on the nose, with palate cracked pepper, blackberry, dark fruit skins. Finely balanced acidity, and integrated tannin. There is huge quality imparted here, though not particularly attention grabbing overall. Good+.

Outstanding. Just coming into its own. Dark fruit and blackberry on the nose. Long finish with notes of black cherry and licorice.

Wow, this one blew me away. For a 2011 I wasn't expecting much, but this Coastview outperformed to say the least. It was in a great spot with delicious layers of fruit and firm-enough grip that reflected an overall harmonious balance. Outstanding. Only negative is that it was my last one. Really wish I had more.

Big Basin Tasting with Bradley (FMIII in the OC) : Excellent complexity, angular tannins, ripe blackberry, and black coal note. Very good but wouldn't have guessed 2011.

Big Basin In The OC--Dinner With Bradley Brown PART 2 (My House) : For an '11 vintage wine, this showed a riper tone, almost '12-like in color and fruit profile. Dark, tarry with iron. Juicy, dark blueberry and black olive, too. Very good and interestingly bigger toned than I'd expect for an '11.

Aroma: Rich red berry and buttered toast. Cinnamon. Grilled meat. Palate: Beautifully balanced dark berries with vanilla and cinnamon. Blueberries. Roasted meat. Structured and tannic but can be enjoyed now for its primary flavors.

Santa Cruz Mountains Day 2 (Rhys, Big Basin, Plumed Horse) : Tasted non blind from a barrel sample at the winery with Bradley. Lots of floral and fruit but isn't showing any spice at all at this stage. Nice powdery texture similar to the Old Corral 2010 barrel sample.
