Paitin, Barbaresco, Sori Paitin Vecchie Vigne Riserva

Enjoyed at a private wine tasting event sponsored by a local wine broker from Houston. Pours a pale ruby with garnet edges. Very floral nose: roses, tar, tart red cherry, chewy red berry, savory plum, herbal tea, taut leather, and red chunky rock. Still in development, not even close to losing steam. Lots of structure still which supports a very long finish. Excellent.

The flagman Barbaresco from Paitin’s portfolio, organic & biodynamic farming, vines planted in 1953. Fermented in stainless steel, aged for 34 months in used large Slavonian and Austrian oak barrels. Intense rich aroma of cherries, pomegranate, dried rose petals, blood orange, roasted herbs, cinnamon, earth. Medium+ body, complex and multilayered, youthful and pleasantly austere but already with such finesse, persistence and tremendous depth. Incredible structure, lively acidity and grippy high tannins.

This wine isn't for everyone, it's got very strong tobacco, earth and perfume notes. This wine needs to be opened for at least 12 hrs, it's unbearable upon pnp I'm giving a high score bc my husband liked it. I had a very hard time finishing 1 glass

Let decant for 2 hours 👀 some rim variation, mostly clear with a slight haze👃just wonderful. Juicy red fruit 👄soft tannins, good bit of acidity, lingering raspberry? Definitely feat a complexity that developed through the evening. I believe it's right in its prime.

Explosive, warm and so 2007, it shows aromatics of menthol, sweet dark plum, candied fruit, rose petals too. It‘s pretty full-bodied, dense and powerful, with almot exotic notes, has medium+ tannin that is very good, and medium acidity. Good length. A more in your face vintage of this great wine... Excellent to drink now and over the next 5-7 years.

Paitin Vertikale - Vecchie Vigne (Zurich) : Sehr jung, sehr bombig, sehr überdrüber. In der Nase sehr frischer Eindruck - am Gaumen fast schon zu viel. Sehr heiss, sehr fruchtig, fast ein 11 jährige Jungwein.

Worth the 10 year wait.

Prior review calling for a long decant is on the money. After 1 hour decant, bright red plums dominate this well balanced wine. After re-read bottling the remainder (vacu-vin), the next day I was greeted with the addition of baking spices and a hint of pipe tobacco. Delicious.

Opened in bottle all day and then decanted for 3 hours. Initially acidic and tart but started to really come around in the later hours. Medium bodied plus with sweet syrupy cherry/raspberry, tobacco, milk chocolate, tar, and anise. Minerality on the finish with mouth drying tannins. Needs 5 more years but good now with long decant.

Opulent and sweet notes of sweet red and dark red cherries, tobacco, sweet spices, tar and licorice. It's pretty full-bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Good lenght. A very explosive, round and open-for-business kind of Barbaresco. Great to drink now and over the next few years.

Piemont Tour; 11/20/2015-11/22/2015 (Monforte, Serralunga, Barolo, Barbaresco) : Wieder seeeehr schön auch wenn noch nicht ganz reif. Braucht noch ein paar Jahre um das Ledrige, das ich in reifen Barbareschi so liebe, besser hervorzubringen. Im Moment voll in der Frucht aber schon offen und kommunikativ... hat auch eine tolle, rauchige Komponente! Im Moment 93 mit Aussicht nach oben... Warum gibt's hier eigentlich keinen "I like it a lot"-Button?

Bretty barnyard notes linger too long, before giving way to tar, red cherry, and earth. Medium-full body, with flavors of earth and funk giving way to earth and cherry. Drink now through 2020.
