Surprisingly still alive - excellent bottle, needed a few hours, then held up well and improved over the evening. Deep garnet colour. Ripe, candied fruit, five spice and lead pencil on the nose. Medium bodied, sour plums, and chewy leather/tobacco on the palate with a decent length. More Grenache on the nose and hints off Tempranillo on the finish. Simple and enjoyable on any given day, but pleasantly surprise given low expectations.

Not much more to add to my note from 2018. Modern style Rioja, very fruit driven, a bit hot. Crowd pleaser, but also a bit boring.

No wine with broad shoulders. Not too dense. But beautifully build. More the old type of Rioja. Rim: brick. Core: warm red. Taste: Soft roasted red paprika. Caramel. Fig. Mellow plum/mulberry. Integrated laurel gives him length. Now at its peak. Maybe another year? Wish would have bought a few more. Like that type of wine.

Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah Drunk over three days. Deep, purple ruby color. Silky, Velvet wine, fruit driven, modern. Not a classical Rioja style. Uncomplicated, good length. Still young, potential for at least 5+ years, but I guess it will not improve. 89-90

This is in a very happy place. Strawberries and earthy, brambly cherry fruit, refined tannins and very good length. Looking very much Rioja from years long gone, for all it's 'modern' credentials

2008 Palacios Remondo Rioja Propiedad | Light bodied with a ruby hue | Nose of cherries, strawberries, and spice | Extremely silky smooth on the palate, but leaving a bit to be desired in flavor intensity | Overall, this is probably one of the more expensive Riojas I've purchased to date (not that I've purchased expensive Riojas), but it's not one of my favorites. It's good, but not great.

Pretty nose of violets, dark berries, earthiness, oak notes, and hints of tar. Texturally intriguing, very nice balance backed by excellent acid and good grip.

An average Rioja. Too much acidity for my personal taste. However, it is a well structured wine, and with some patience it can evolve throughout the hours, and acidity softens.

Can’t really share the enthusiasm for this wine shown by most of the Spanish professional tasters. An elegant and well-made wine, but absolutely not the quality level that could be expected from this renowned producer. Varietal composition: 60 % Grenache and 40 % Tempranillo. The wine was aged for 18 months in Allier barriques. A medium density wine, garnet red in color with shades of violet on the rim. Aromas of red and black berries, cassis, dried fruit and vanilla …

Purplish, ruby colors with a nose of cedar, violets, and cigar box. The palate is noticeably lighter but more approachable compared to the 2007 vintage. Notes of dark cherry, raspberry, spice and oak with hints of smoke and black tea are evident, but just doesn't come together compared to the '07. Drink now until 2018

Almost black, with some bubbles kissing the sides of the glass Full bodied, with a high viscosity Some jaminess, subtle fruit filled nose with some underlying hints of wood showing through Silky smooth, well structured, wine with a medium finish. Lighter then it appears. Tastes like it smells. This is the new style of Rioja. The rougher older type characteristics are not present. All in all, a very good wine.

Ultra modern rioja with no personality. Could be from anywhere in Spain, even Rhone. Nothing to do with Rioja in my opinion. Just an overextracted wine with a not very pleasant nose of dark berries, vodka and dark chocolate. Tastes the same. I'd rather drink cheap rioja instead.

Nice Rioja popped and decanted drunk over the next 3 hours, should have decanted this 3 hours ahead of drinking. Deep dark red color. The nose had notes of black cherries, cinnamon sugar, charcoal, blackcurrant, horseradish, earthy and woody. On the palate there was cherries, blackberry, rosemary, peppermint, chocolate and black licorice. Serano ham and cheese was a good pairing with this. 5-10 years will do this well. .

Held some promise, with elements of cherry, vanilla and a bit of spice the first night. Still a bit tight, however. After a glass I sealed it up for the second night, expecting the flavors to open up. Big mistake. Dead, raisin-like flavors were what I got when I re-opened. Definitely lacking structure. Pop it open now and don't expect much.

High toned, oak, pepper and dark fruit nose. Palate initially quite sharp, with nice acidic, tannic finish. the next days it toned down. More tree-bark, ink and fruit on the nose, smooth, dark fruit, old oak and spiciness on the finish. Quite enjoyable on the second night but nothing special. If you have a bottle I would wait a year or two before opening one.

No tasting notes taken, but struck us as having a gamey/meaty smell. Other than that: medium body and tannins, correctly balanced, average finish. Slightly austere as a summer wine, but definitely shows potential to be great in the right context/pairing. [3.75/5]
