9th of 12, opened 80 minutes, perfect cork and level, much fresher and more energetic than other recent bottles, attractive if not up with the best, hard to see upside. VG+ (16.5).

8th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, browning, even less to it, drink up. QG+ (14.5).....not enough substance for a riserva which usually age more gracefully entering a more nuanced if less vibrant phase (cf Rampolla or Fonterutoli or Sodi).

5th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, now fully mature, nice weight of fruit, good length and persistence, quite complex for Chianti but nothing exceptional and not in same league as Percarlo! VGI (17).

5th of 12, pnp, brown granular cork, perfect level, previous notes VG or better - mid red, browning; plum and cherry, touch of vanilla and spice, more nuanced than last bottle; medium, decent length and concentration, harmonious, if lacking the power and authority of later Siro Pacenti Brunello '99, now fully ready. VGI (17).

2nd of 12, opened 45 minutes - in essence as last December's note, but better, more definition and energy to the fruit and went well with moussaka, still improving? Very good plus (16.5/20).

1st of 12, good fill - darkish, plummy red; attractive if simple plummy/cherry nose, traces of vanilla and spice; medium full, quite long, decent fruit, ready but should hold for some time, a good well made wine, but nothing particularly special either. At best very good (16/20).

I expected more from this, but it was opened out of context between two bigger fruit-forward New World bottles. This Chianti was gentle and mature and balanced and well-mannered and good with food. But nothing stood out and I didn't find the mellow complexity that I recalled from initial tasting. I will treat the remaining bottle more fairly.
