Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne

The epic kalamazoo pit (Ocean Drive) : Great producers have it all with consistent and super showing at every level. This had some stemmy goodness with juicy and silky fruit amidst a backdrop of vosne spice and oak. Nicely balance here, and perhaps the 18s are finally coming around nicely.

Medium body. Some barnyard funk in the nose and initial palate. The minerality and soft tannins are very nice, but it lacks depth in the mid palate. Slightly tannic in the finish.

Purple color. Rich, gourmand, floral. The vintage is showing through but this is still smooth and silky with wonderful layers of fruit and spices. Serious matter, needs time in the cellar. With CG at La Cabotte.

Dark fruit, strawberry, vanilla, good acidity, not nearly as metallic as I imagined, and quite accessible. 90-91

Medium body. Flavors of blackberry and stone. On the palate the oak is noticeable and overpowers the fruit. Tannins carry into the finish. This needs more years to balance out.

Oak dominates the nose initially, though with air it dissipates. Deep reddish-purple color. Berry and dark fruit. Ripe but not overly so. Great Bourgogne, probably best to give it a couple of years.
