Deep lively colour, very pretty aromatics, super finesse and a note of violets. Palate felt very closed and needed a couple of hours to get going, everything felt correct with very fine tannins on the finish, but ultimately I did not find this bottle seductive. Perhaps if I had waited another 5 years it would have come together more and some succulence would have been revealed - but not just at the moment.

An unusual CdP. Pale in the glass but showing bright acidity and fine but notable tannins. A little VA on opening and the first 30 mins but this dissipated gradually. Cherries and some light herbs are the main features. While not a blockbuster by any means, it pairs well with food as others have noted previously - almost Nebbiolo like some ways.

A bright red when poured. Lots of cherry on the front of the palate. Hints of white pepper, thyme and cedar. Very smooth to the point of being light on the finish. Delicious at the moment, but not a blockbuster.

Decanted for an hour before serving with rack of lamb. Dark crimson red color. Lifted and bright, with aromas of white currants, red berries and floral tones. Pleasant pine forest and herb overtones. Full-bodied. Fine tannins with a bit more acidity than I’d have expected. Flavors of baked cherries and boysenberry, white pepper and herbs, though not yet what I’d consider garrigue. I found this to be a fabulous CDP. The bit of bottle age has likely helped it a lot as there is a firm backbone of precious and structure but alongside beautiful, expansive hedonistic rich fruit profile. This kind of has everything. Glad I have one more and which I had more than that. This is the kind of wine I should be buying more of - amazing quality for a reasonable price.

Here I am almost completely at odds with last reviewer (g ruqt) as I found this forward and elegant. No obvious old vines intensity and the red berry and cherry notes were very much what I'd expect from a grenache heavy blend with a pleasant savoury not in the background coming from the mouverdre. This is a big wine; it is not a typical CNP nor very enjoyable, says I. First day all tannin, deep pitcher decanting, all tannin. Day 3, drinkable, no obvious flaws, however rustic is the word as noted below. I would have guessed Mourvedre was the primary grape, don't find the Grenache. Brilliant wine. No lack of fruit but tons of finesse and complexity. Alcohol kept in check with nice grip for almost purely grenache. Roses atop a bowl of cherries. I sense a great deal of cali pinot "cola" on the nose and in how it presents Amazed by the shade thrown at this wine for not being a 16% oak bomb or 12% abv burgundy.

Round Table Tasting: Spring Releases (Knightsbridge) : Retailer tasting. Aromas of red currant, cherry and spice. Full-bodied and a bit on the rustic side compared to other '16s I've tasted, this will need some time in the cellar to come around. Mixed red and black fruits on the palate with plenty of herb and spice as well. 90% grenache and 10% mourvedre. Tannins dry out on the finish. Domino enjoyed this a bit more than I did. Hold for now.

2016 is my kind of CdP vintage: ripe, racy and fresh with no lack of concentration. The Piedlong is no exception. Plummy red fruits, sandalwood and fresh leather on the nose, it’s fairly full bodied, silky and ripe on the palate with red fruits and minerals. The finish is a bit short, but crisp and fresh, no prunes or raisins here. The one knock is that the price has gone up quite a bit for this second label from VT.
