Popped and poured. Nose of blackberry, smoke, and violets. Has lost a LOT of fruit over the last year, more secondary characteristics, tannins have completely disappeared with the fruit. Still a very good wine, just not quite what it used to be.

Popped and poured. Dark purple, bright purple rim. Nose of dark berries, smoke, vanilla and violets. Black fruits, cherry and berry, beef, and some smoky oak. Nice mouthfeel, with firm grip on the finish. Great QPR at ~$12.

Opened 30 minutes before tasting. A big deep purple wine. A bit hot on the first pour. The heat diminished over time. Strong violet componets with a grapey, jammy, smokey undercurrent. Very nice.

Decanted for about 30 minutes. Very dark purple wine, fairly opaque, fairly hefty. Aroma does have lots of violets, some perfume, a hint of smoke. The palate is a bit thin, very plummy, picks up some spice after a bit, a bit of smoke, light tannins, and leaves an OK spice-led finish. Nice.

Rated by W/S as the top syrah of 2004. It's a violet grenade with so much goin' on, it is't funny. Tannins for a syrah will give some endurance in the cellar. An incredible value from California.
