Andrea brought to Canyon. Hands down the WOTN (for AJ, MrFig and me) on a serendipitous night when 3 Mencias showed up unannounced in the blind tasting. Nose: Hello Mr. Stinky! in a good way, like an old Bdx. Medium bodied. Resolved. A tiny bit of sweetness in the begining which disappeared later in the evening. Wish I had some. 92+pts. BTW, this was the oldest of the 3 Mencia. Maybe proving the point that they get better with age. …

We pulled this 14 year old wine to see how well Mencia ages. Opaque with a narrow ring of red on the edge. Fine aromas of blackberry, mulberry, and violets. Bright acidity and tannin that is drying and lightly astringent. Not a powerhouse but certainly elegantly enjoyable. The finish is very long and throat coating. Nothing old, tired, or bland.

Still going, but fruit is drying some. Dark garnet with no bricking. Brooding deep dark fruit and tobacco nose, needed a few hours to show its stuff. Tannins more resolved the 2nd day where it showed better. Acid is in balance with the dark blackberry bramble, but the tannins still ask for some food to pair. Recommend giving it at least a few hours of decant time, don't see an upside to further ageing.

Lovely wine. Nice and funky, with a good tannin structure, pure fruit in the blueberry/plum mode, stableized by some old wood, pencil shavings, nice herbs, acidity that's great with food and makes it interesting on it's own. This was a magnum bottle in fine shape - no meaning in waiting any longer for this.

Dark red. Lots of funk, blueberry, pencil shavings and some red fruit notes as well. Delicious pure fruit flavours and a long tannic finish. An excellent wine.

Bill's Summer Garden Offline (Vancouver, BC) : From magnum. Deep ruby red. Nice of nose funk, spices, earth and dark fruits. Medium bodied with good structure and firm tannins. Lengthy finish. Very good.

Full bodied, earthy dark wine, tight on the nose up front, but opens up nicely after 50 minutes or so. Wonderful waves of raspberry, licorice, and floral scents burst out at mid-palate, leaving a long, enjoyable finish. Enjoy with rare steak, bleu cheese, goat meat or the like. Loves strong flavored accompaniments.

Blackish purple, orange and clear meniscus. Nose is very dark, broody, brambly. Black plum, blackberry, cedar, hickory smoke, toffee, with a lift from light fresh herbs. I get a stronger acidity on the palate than I expected. Dark fruit, a woodiness that detracts. Long drying tannins to the finish. I would say this has a chance to integrate better in a couple of years, but I have my doubts that it will shine.

Flowers, chocolate, and vanilla on the nose. The floral component really shines through on the nose especially after warming up slightly. Very good body on the mouth, seems just right without being too watery or too "chewy" coats the mouth nicely.
