Elegant, perfumed, and rather subtle in its age

Darker in color than the 2018 and 2019 and (from memory), denser fruit profile. However, like those wines, there is nothing over the top about this zin and it drank nicely with minimal decanting.

Old world style Sonoma zin from hundred year old vines. Not as fruit forward as many modern versions of this varietal. A bit more savory, with a balance between the dark fruits and the dried flowers, herbs and mint.

Lots of up front fruit but didn't have much depth.

Took delivery of my futures last week and we’ve already blown through two bottles. This ‘20 is rocking good, Fred hit a veritable home run with this wine. Aromatics are great on pop-n-pour, fruit and juiciness are lively and plenty of structure. Night two (one pour left) rises to another level. Fantastic!

The '20 is absolutely up to high OMV standards. And will get even better over the next 4-10 years.

Gifted bottle from a friend. Having had an '11 recently we thought we'd open this to see where it stood--in two words "unbelievably beautiful". Soft integrated tannins, nice acids up front, plenty of fruit left. Red and black fruits intermingle with sage and olive brine. Oh so nice.

Greenblanket's last bottle and he is glad he opened it. Everything was in balance and the body was smooth and fairly long. The original fruit was muted way down but we didn't get any hint of tertiary development - maybe that's asking too much or maybe we didn't decant long enough.

Medium dark red violet color; VA, roasted berry, refined oak nose; mature, ripe red plum, red berry palate; medium-plus finish

ahhhh - a sublime bottle of 2001 Zin from Fred Scherrer...Slightly muted fruit, but oh so smooth, medium long finish, fabulous nose - pretty much sums up why I drink wine! and this is just a tad better today than the last bottle we tasted in July - it is not competing w/ a bigger bolder wine so that probably makes it shine further along with it being a much cooler night, so the wine is not as a better …

Still drinking beautifully - hard to believe this is a 2001 zin. Tannins have smoothed out, and there is only a tiny bit of fruit detectable, and still a very nice wine - perfect match with grilled ribeye (sans rub).

Hard to believe this is a 2001 Zin given that it drinks like a younger wine. Still has fairly good acidity and opened nicely after about 30 mins. Had a little bit of black licorice on the nose. Not a whole lot of depth left on the fruit, but all in all is still pretty well balanced. Could probably spend a couple more years in the bottle.

Still fresh and lively with very little sign of bottle age. I'm getting to the end of my bottles and the last one will go into the science closet for a good long time.

Beautiful, with the very beginning of some secondary aromas and flavors but still in possession of loads of freshness and round tannins. The bouquet in the nearly empty glass is all about zin spice and flowers. This gets at least a two seed on the Zinco de Mayo dance card.

Popped and poured and it was outstanding. Red & dark fruit w/o any heat or extraction. Went wonderfully with spicy wild pig sausage & a spicy mexican soup. I normally don't care for zin, but this was really nice and food friendly.

Opened, given a hard decant and consumed by our little Friday night group in just under an hour. This was more austere than past bottles with black and red fruit and a whiff of zin spice on the bouquet. Cool blackberry and unzinlike currant flavors dominate with some still tough tannic and acid structure. This is not a wine to open and slosh down quickly. Greenblanket will attempt to hold his remaining bottles to see what develops in the mid-term …

Greenblanket really took his time with this wine this time letting it open fully and drinking it over two days with a variety of food. It showed a floral cherry nose with spicy blackberry. The blackberries led the attack with juicy black currents showing on the mid-palate and cherry/allspice flavors on a persistent finish. The body was medium-plus with a smooth but very present tannin structure. This wine is holding strong seven years after vintage and while it’s clearly all …

This is the very best restrained type of Zinfandel that I know The nose offers up a classic zin bouquet of black fruit and brambly spices along with some nice oak accents. (Greenblanket almost always enjoys well integrated oak flavors in his Zinfandel.) There is a medley of the same classic zin flavors on the cool, well-balanced palate and the long finish. This is surprisingly fresh for a 2001 and I believe it as a long way to go in …

A nice zin made in a lighter style that is food friendly. It does show some heat on the finish and comes across just a tad disjointed.

This was very pinot like in structure and body with great zin flavors including black cherry and black pepper. There were lots of pleasing features here including a floral nose, a long elegant finish and an appealing stem or bark streak that ran from the palate through the finish. Excellent.

Not a bad Zin for the price - a little "lighter" than I expected. Not much pepper or fruit on the nose or taste. Fairly well balanced.
